Sounds like you are pretty handy, so building a car with your daughter should be a ton of fun and memories. I can recall a lot of times I did without cool parts because the kids needed braces and stuff. Just remember to be gracious if she totals it like mine did........... :blam:
I AM GOING TO TELL HER IF SHE TOTALS IT, SHE IS GOING TO BE STUCK WITH THE "DOODOO CAR"... ALL ORIGINAL, 1980 MONTE LS, WITH 46K ORIGINAL MILES ON STOCK 305... SHE CALLS IT THE DOODOO CAR CAUSE ITS sh*t BROWN...

I built my gp on a budget as well... 8) I did it by getting a second job and selling/ trading items as well.. all in all I have about 6-7 k on my ls1 swap including the carbed 305 to 35o targetmaster swap! which was money wasted IMO.... if I would have stayed sbc route it would have been even cheaper. I did the ls1 swap and got some pretty good deals, ie: craigslist, junkyard, etc etc.... I have to admit I got some awesome deals!! but it can be done! NOW the budget is about to be blasted out of the water with the upcoming plans that include paint and engine upgrades....

sh*t I know a thing or 2 about being broke. It has taken me a year and a half to build my 496 from the ground up. I just now got to bolt the pulleys on! Working part time making $9.40 an hr sucks *ssh*les but I get my bills paid so I cant b*tch.

my biggest problem is, i make 30 grand in 6 months, but then i get about $350 a week for unemployment for the next 6 months... if im not careful, in the 6 months i am not working i can get myself DEEP in debt... SEASONAL JOBS SUCK... granted i plow snow in the winter, so that helps, but not enough...

Nothing wrong with a frugal build, you'd be surprised how nice things turn out when a little extra effort is needed. Our household income is pretty good and after I am done with the wagon we are back on a mac n' cheese car budget because daycare is more than the payment on a new CTS-V.

NEW 65K HEI, 300+ FERRO RACE WIRES, AND A 120 CHROME ALTERNATOR...

How is this poor built and i don`t get it why should anyone laugh at it? And please, leave that caps lock alone...
Just keep on doing your project when ever you have afford it, thats the way I do mine... 😀
I'M ITALIAN, I TALK LOUD... and i call it a poor build cause its a cheap ebay build... $75 for distributor and wires... $60 for the alternator... $25 fuel pump... inexpensive ebay parts...

I fell your pain hell i only got about 75.00 or less a month to spend on my 84 monte. iv been working on it for about 4 years now,iv had it for 8 years now.it's taking forever to get the thing fix an still needs a lot of work. Hey i just got the same exact hi torque mini starter seems to be good so far, it sounds way different than the gm starter too

You Don't always have to buy NEW parts to make an engine look nice. You can do what i did an use the stock stuff ,that is if you have it ,or make your own stuff, till you get caught up ,polish them yourself an saves your cash, yea polishing stuff takes a lot of sanding "finger sanding" but it look nice once you get done,My buddy's thought i went an bought a brand new alternator but I broke out the camera to show them lol
