Krugerrands... made in gold, silver, blah blah blah. Not as gimmicky as the artful coins so less markup for numismatic or intrinsic value and usually quite available.
Oh I'm aware of the effect on inflation, I just have to wonder if it isn't somewhat of a ploy to artificially boost the GDP when we aren't producing crap. Funny the way a debt based economy works. . .
I couldn't really see it, its short sighted. It's more about a wishlist of political priorities and pork have a side effect that screws with the economy.
To the extent the GDP suffered, it was mainly on the services and hospitality side (other suffered, but not same extent.) Problem is, there wasn't latent industrial capacity that you could fund or repurpose to boost that gdp. So in effect you're fighting over goods capacity that was already allocated to existing demand, thus the inflation and price boosts.
