Installing big magnet 6x9's

In that case the easiest way to install them is with 4 screws, from the bottom.
Don't cut any of the holes, the 4x10 holes are good enough to let all the sound through.
You can make 4 holes, drop in the studs from the top, through the speaker hole, and tighten a nut with lock washer from below.
You can get the studs and lock washers and nuts from Home Depot or any hardware store for a few cents.

Note: if they don't sit flush from below, you might have to cut out 1" thick (or thicker if need be) MDF wood, cut the holes for the speaker part and mount that to the bottom of the rear shelf, then mount the speakers to the wood from below, if that makes sense.

My old Bonneville had 6x9s mounted to the bottom like stated here. Except they put nothing to fill the 1/2" gap between them and the tray. They were old Alpine or Kenwoods from the 80s (had a matching tape deck when I got it too). I put a CD player that put out 50 watts per channel. And a lot of people thought I had a small sub going in the trunk. They sounded really good. So if there's a gap, it should still sound OK.

I just took the rear shelf and back seat out. I also took the rods out.

I am really not seeing a way to mount these. Towards the rear is the trunk jam. Towards the front is the rear seat. I would need to cut the metal behin the seat and then the packing tray and the rear seat would stick out.

BINGO !! The way to mount the big speakers is to have them flat to the parcel shelf ( just like the 4x10s ) but pushed forward thru the seatback. You have to cut a notch in the rear seatback with a cutoff wheel or sawsall appx 2" high and 6" long for them to fit ( clean up the opening with a file so you dont cut up the speakers ). The speakers will then mount flat and you use carriage head bolts with nylon nuts thru the parcelshelf to hold them in place. Yes the speaker housing will hit the seatback but it's foam and will contour around the speaker.

Too damn cold to remove the seat and take pics of my setup but I had to do this back in November when I put in my Infinity 6939i speakers in the Monte and many years ago when we were trying to massage in some big assed pioneer speakers into a freinds 'bu. Maybe I can take a couple pics thru the trunk so you can see.

You can mount them from the top but I don't like to advertise my wares and really don't like the "look".

Remove the trunk lift springs completely. No more interference. You can snap them out. Your trunk will be heavier, but you can always add trunk shocks and it'll be better than stock that way.

How?

I did it to a past grand prix I had. Grab a pair of vice grip pliers, adjust it for the width of the trunk spring itself. Attach it near one end of each spring (left or right side) and pull away from the hook that it's held in with. You'll see what I mean when you look under there.

Oh and trunk struts are cheap too. Look here. Read the reviews on the first item there. Make sure to measure your trunk before you purchase a set.

Well, here's a set, it's a better picture so you can see it close up:

Now I've never installed these in the GP, but I'm getting a set for my hood.
Open you trunk fully, extend the struts fully (they will already be extended) and then:
You have to look for vertical metal surface on the trunk lid to attach one end of the strut to with supplied bolt, and the other end should bolt easily to the bottom part of the trunk.

you can see in these pics that even with notching the back seat as I mentioned the speakers barely clear the support rods.
