installing new detent cable

i put a new detent cable and now leaks oil from the base, i didnt put a little steal o ring type thing back on is that why it leaks? i try to look up detent cable gasket and only thing comes up is that it needs o ring but it looks like a rubber one they show, mine had a steal one

I've had this issue before. I ended up just finding an o ring that fits right and reinstalling. Problem gone. 🙂
