I'm trying to add my Regal on my current insurance policy.

I said I'd likely drive the car 3 times/month - which is true.

They want an extra $100/month for basic coverage.
I think that's a bit steep since my 2003 Cavalier is driven all the time and I'm paying $107/month for it.

Last year, my Buick was costing me $112/month as my daily driver. My Cav was $147. Then my rates when down for the Cav.

Any ideas on how to get a better deal for an occasionally driven car? Or do I have to stop complaining and suck it up? Every penny I can save is going into my new engine build.

If you're under 25, it's all about the risk you'll kill somebody.
Every morning on the news there's a wreck with a young kid splitting a car in half, don't think I've ever see an older guy do that.

I thought the age was 21, in the Insurance broker's eyes? I am 21, and my rates did go down on my previous birthday.

It's too bad that your career couldn't play a role. I'm a commercial pilot and fly in all sorts of weather, some great, some horrible, on land and water, in controlled and uncontrolled airspace and still can't prove that my auto insurance (where the 3rd dimension is basically not present - compared to flying) should be $25-50 cheaper.

Ahh the joys of life.

I pay $200 a month and I am 34. I have no comp or collision, and the insurance is on my 1985 Cutlass and 1998 Nissan Frontier. I do have 25-50-25 insurance plus additional medical payments, and it is commercial insurance for pizza delivery, but still...

My wife and I pay $1800 a year for a 2007 Toyota Tacoma and 2000 Jeep Cherokee both with collision, and the '78 LeMans that does not have collision. Of course we live in Erie, PA it's a cheap place to live except for gas LOL!

Pizza delivery means "used in business", much higher rates. Given the insurance cost and the high fuel cost, you may not be netting anywhere near what you need.
The insurance folks will explain how the vehicle is rated and what that means.
The company you insure with has alot to do with it too....free market most places.
I don't pay very much cause my two older vehicles (25 yrs+) are driven only for "pleasure" and parked on a ranch.

WOw

I dont know where you guys get your insurance from, I get basic coverage on my 86 monte for 59 bucks a month through progressive, I had 3 points on my liscence but they are now gone though. Have fun paying double the price I do lol. 😀

It all depends on where you live. Different states, provinces have different rules and rip off policies.
The magic age in Ontario is 25 if your record stays clean. Once you hit 10 years driving experience here, you can put your regal under silver wheels insurance and pay about 200 a year. You will just have to suck it up 'til then.
