yeah

the other day a stupid teenage girl flew by me in a 40 zone going about 65 then she slowed down at the red light starting fixing her sh*t in the mirror and wouldnt ****ing go I honked my horn so goddamn loud, she got the message and continued driving, dumb b*tch.

i pay $62 a month with Historic tags in MD on my 86 MOnte, and onl pay $52 every other year for tags

There is a time and place for serious speeding. The only place is on the track!

I do about 10 over, sometimes 20 (keep in mind this is km/h). Honestly though, I'll do the speed limit, and get passed by almost everyone on my way to work. Funny thing is that I usually catch them when they get a red light in town. By the time I get there, it turns green and I don't have to stop - all the while saving that much gas enroute! Win - win to me.

Another question for the Ontario gents...
What's it take to register the car as a classic or historic? I read somewhere that it has to be completely stock and get appraisals? I plan on going dual exhaust with a beefier engine. My car is an '86 - almost 22 years old. Wouldn't mind knowing where to look for info about this.

I believe the car has to be 30+years old to get historic plates. As for classic car insurance - it depends on the plan. Some insurance companies have a 15+ year plan, but most are 20+ years and you have to be 25yrs old yourself. Classic cars are no different with respect to sticker renewal (historic tags are cheaper though).

In maryland, historic is anything over 20 years old. They just took the milage restricting off and the only other requirement is you have atleast 1 other car in your name with regular tags. Antuque is anything over 30 years old and has a 1200 mile restricting per year and is only supposed to drive on the weekends

Someone said that, in their state/province, insurance is like legalized extortion. I feel the same way about New Jersey. Our rates are mind-boggling.

That said... my insurance adventure has been... troublesome. About ten years ago, I got my license suspended for a month thanks to my being young, stupid, and my driving a 1977 Caprice Classic over the Tappan Zee Bridge at 163mph (!!!). Ahem. I got my license back and, shortly thereafter, was dropped by my insurance company for a completely unrelated reason (they were holding a "lottery", and I "won", so to speak).

Due to my recent speed mishap, the rates I was being quoted were preposterous and I actually spent nearly a year car-less. It was brutal, it sucked and, damnit, I deserved every second of it.

Eventually I found a very nice, local State Farm representative -- a girl who I think kind of liked me -- and she cut me all kinds of breaks in getting my insurance back in action. These days, I pay about $105 per month to keep my Grand Prix on the road. And at the end of every year, I usually get a $250-$300 check back from the insurance company. So I think it's actually not too bad.

Strangely... I pay more to insure my 1990 pig-of-a-V6 Cougar than I do for my V8 Grand Prix. Neither of them have historic plates. I've yet to figure out why, but... whatever.

163mph in a 1977 Caprice has to be some kind of record!!! How many turbos and how much nitrous did it take to propel that brick to that speed? I mean, you could have contested it by telling the judge "Your honor, I was driving a 1977 Caprice Classic. Do you really believe I could do 163mph in that car?"

If you deal with a Broker they will shop the best rate for you. If you can qualify you can get "classic" car insurance. Zehr is one of them that will give you coverage in Ontario. There are a bunch of stipulations though.

Appraisal with Pictures every few years
No Exotic Modifications ( ei: Body Kits, race engines.. )
You must have a Daily Driver insured in your name
No driving to work
No shopping malls or otherwise unattended parking
Most of the companys want the car garaged and alarmed as well.

All of this has cut my insurance from $150.00 / mo for basic PLPD to $400.00 for the year full coverage ( PLPD + fire & theft ).

i pay 220 a month for my 07 Outlander, 88 Monte SS, and a 91 civic SI. id say im doing pretty well for insurance, mind you only the Outlander has full coverage.
