Just recently picked up a 99 vortec motor and i was wondering how that intake thing works... i can pick a high rise intake that is rated at 3500-8000... Now my question is, is that too much intake because i dont really plan on racing unless some fool pulls up aside me wanting some. Or should i go with one that is rated 1500-6500???

If your not racing then I would go with a simple Edelbrock Performer. They work from idle to like 65-7500 I believe. No need for higher rpms on a street engine. The Air Gap Performer from Edelbrock doesnt flow too much better than the standard I have read.

even if you are racing 6500 rpm will be damaging your valve train...you'd never make it to 8000. I have vortec heads and use an Edelbrock Performer Air Gap

a regular vortec would never make it near to 8000 and would be an absolute dog with that intake. granted, you could do a major rebuild and set it up to use it, but it would be a race motor and a dog on the street.
definitely go with a e-brock performer (whichever model-but for stock go with the basic one)

hell, here's a question, where do you live? i'm in CT and am willing to pull and sell my performer (vortec) intake and then upgrade mine to the RPM air-gap...
