I've been running an edelbrock performer intake on my 350 in my 1980 chevy malibu classic. Runs great and gives me 400hp and roughly 15-18mpg. I'm just curious what the benefits are to some of these other intakes such as edelbrock's torker, victor intake, etc. etc. So what brand would you choose and let me know the specific name of the intake along with the pros and cons.

My current set up on the motor is:
* 350 standard bore 2 bolt main
* 2.02, 1.60 heads (not aluminum)
* Summit .442 lift cam
* Edelbrock performer and edelbrock 600cfm carb
* 350 turbo transmission, B&M shift kit, and 2000 stall
*3.73 yukon posi rear end , 10 bolt 7.625in.
*10.5 mm Dragonfire Spark Plug wires
*MSD 45-60,000 volt distributor (HEI)

Im running the same intake as you pat, but I dont have a hp estimate yet, we have a lot of the same stuff though, but i doubt im in the 400hp range.

I haven't had any problems with my intake at all but one guy proposed using a victor jr. intake. Just want to start a thread on this topic and get input from other guys.

ive had lots of problems with mine, but its my fault, it was on the motor and it was rigged on there. I may look into cam, intake and gears for the summer.

Im running Eddy performer air gap & I love it (rpm air gap is good also)

pros I guess would be a cooler charge & blocks off that crossover area of the heads.

cons probably be hood clearance, depending on carb spacers and all that good stuff.

I have a bigger cam than you ( I think) and run the standard Performer. I am thinking of the Performer RPM as an upgrade in the future though as I can stand to lose a little low RPM torque (If anything, I have too much) if it gives me gains on the top end. Why did I buy the standard Performer? It was $15 at the junkyard.

For your engine, the Victor Jr is not a good choice. You do not have the cam or heads to support it and it would be a dog on your engine. If anything, you would loose power and torque due to insufficient velocity through the ports at the speeds your engine can actually operate at. I also doubt you have 400hp. 330-360 is probably more accurate. I ran quite a few sims on my combo before choosing the cam I have, and mine makes 355hp with a higher lift cam.

pat, i just got thinking about it, what else do you have on your motor, I really want to get a lot closer to 400 than I am at the moment. Being our set ups are pretty close already, you must have something i dont other than a big cam. Do you have a video of your car?

The guy who helped me build the motor is a respectable engine builder in the world of NASCAR. The motor dynoed at 400hp, now as far as the rear wheels with the 373's probably around 330 or so.

As far as the video, I have no clue on how to do one then put it up on a computer. I have a tape video recorder but I don't think I can hook that up to a computer :lol:

does your digital camera have a video option? If so, just upload that like a picture. Someone you know must have a digital camera with a video camera on it.

id go with an air gap or RPM air gap. im running the same combo in my wagon and im positive its nowhere close to 400hp. closer to 300
