I need to paint my interior panels such as A, B pillar covers, kick panels and such. After washing with dawn soap what primer, paint and hints for durability and looks do you have? Going from burgundy to black.
Thanks

Just finished doing the same. Changed grey to black. Also did my 85 Camaro. I used the SEM vinyl dye/paint, along with their soap and Plastic adhesion promoter. Scrubbed the panels with the soap and Grey Scotchbright pads. Then wiped them with isopropyl alcohol. Sprayed them with adhesion promoter, let it flash off, 1 light coat of the paint, let it flash, then a med/wet coat. Then let them dry for a few days to cure. I tested a couple of pieces and you almost need a screwdriver to scratch them. Turned out well.

Use SEM color coat! It's not cheap, but made specifically for interior parts. If the prep is followed right, it will hold up for a long time.

Oh, make sure you get some adhesion promotor...I've used the duplicolor type with great results. Without it, the paint will not stick well, and flake off (ask me how i know).

Maybe 565bbchevy will chime in with a pic of his interior. He did a color change and it looks killer!

Im not claiming to be an expert on this but Ive done quite a few pieces with SEM Color Coat and its great stuff. Preparation is EVERYTHING !
I use Dawn in hot water, a scrub brush and a grey scotchbrite to start off. Then I use almost all SEM products. SEM Soap, again with a grey scotchbrite pad. SEM Plastic Prep with a new clean microfiber cloth, and then follow it up with two light coats of Bulldog adhesion promoter.
Some people might think what I do is overkill but I think of it this way. Prepping the stuff takes a while. Spraying the parts is easy. Taking it all apart to do the job without damaging a clip or scratching the plastic or paint is kinda tough. I dont want to do it twice because I took a shortcut. Just sayin..

I agree prep is key and I have had good luck with both Bulldog and Duplicolor adhesive promoters, I don't think you can go wrong with either.
My car came with light gray interior, dark gray dash and the center console came blue and I used SEM camel and landua black and finished them with low luster clear for a factory look and added protection from scratches.

Funny that both of you guys used the clear as a top coat. I never used the clear on anything. Recently I was at an upholstery shop and the owner told me that you should always use it because Color Coat has no UV protection. To be honest I didnt know that.
Ive been having an issue with the paint supplier getting a color match on SEM for my wagon. The panels in the photo have to be resprayed. Compared to the original color theyre too light. I didnt find this out until I already put them back in but those are the only pieces that I put back in so far.
Long story short, the guy in the upholstery shop told me the clear will darken the color up a shade. He was right. I used the clear in the aerosol can and one quick coat did make it much darker. Not enough to use it as is but I think Im going to clear everything after I get the color closer. They make a flattening agent for the clear so I'll knock the gloss down to where I like it.
I sprayed all the panels for my car except the door panels because they match the vinyl 100%. Of course the rest of the plastic turned out much lighter. In the end Im going to spray the door panels too so theyre going to mix the color again to get it closer. You can see how much lighter the back panel is in this photo.

I have always used SEM low luster clear over my color coat but it was always for protection and to kill the shine but recently I did a dash piece on my Regal that was faded and had a couple spots that were near white and all I did was prep it and spray the low luster clear without a color coat and it brought the color back out to original, I only tried this since all the shades of color coat were lighter than my dash piece but after doing this I finally found matching paint at GbodyParts.
