TC,
In one of threads regarding the Cherokee intermediate shaft, someone had mentioned something about using a Grand Cherokee shaft with the aluminum ends for the '78 models. I believe he said that it would require a slight modification. I'll see if I can find it again. It was one of guys that were selling the Jeep shafts on this site and Maliburacing.

I've been thinking about that myself. I'd like to get ahold of one and see what needs to be done to make it work. I'm sure it can't be too difficult to modify. Which ones had the aluminum ends?

If I'm not mistaken, it's the Grand Cherokee shafts that had the aluminum ends on them. I'm also curious as to how they work in regard to the '78 splined shaft column.

installed the jeep shaft this weekend and i love it....theres still a tiny bit of play but its MUCH better then i was.

the Chevy Astro and GMC Safari van's intermediate shaft is another one that fits with a minor alteration and there is no need to separate the shafts but if you do they go back together easy. The vans have the shaft completely enclosed in a rubber cover so the ones I found were rust free and there is alot more of these van in yards so it's an easier find. I have one in my GP.
