I have to give hyundai credit, they've got some well put together cars. My sis has a new elantra and the interior is nicer than a few lexus's I've seen. They do a good job and I'm sure they last a long time

You may enjoy this Top Gear clip on the XJ-S if you have not already seen it. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nDAu-ipa6zk&feature=related

"all the funny touches like these comedy instruments"

He was spot on with everything but the suspension, it just about floats - even with old bushings - I forget I'm driving a noisy v8 it's so smooth with IRS and 7 shocks

They have used XJ-S's in a number of different challenges too, and often say it has the best ride of any car in the world. Oddly enough, that chassis was still used by Aston Martin and Jaguar until about a year or two ago.

On one episode, they are told to buy a coupe that is not a Porsche for less than 1500 GBP. James buys a gold XJ-S for that one, but unlike the one he had in this one, that one is stock and not restored so it has PLENTY of issues (leaks, overheating and of course electrical problems). It also manages to do 140mph on a test track and best the BMW 635csi and Mitsubishi Starion turbo used by the other two presenters. The Jag wins the challenge, but James concedes that it is not the best car to recommend to the viewers.

On another episode, they use a white XJ-S equipped with a huge nitrous kit to beat several super cars, after first gutting it. This car is later used to kill off the Black Stig by running it off an aircraft carrier. He was killed off because his identity became known.

BTW, I am a bit of a Top Gear fan, if you couldn't tell...

As for the wiper motor issue, I would try to find a original factory service manual from Lucas or Jaguar that details it. Then, you could get a salvage one from a junkyard for about $15 and build one good one. It sounds like it is a minor issue with it not wanting to park. If nothing else, you SHOULD have the wiring manual for that car. I remember reading somewhere that some of the electrical system is 5 volts and some of it is 12.

Dammit, all this talk of XJ-S' is making me want to find one to mess with. I am arrogant enough to think that I could possibly sort one out...

Well I looked around to try and find a used one but couldn't... and if it was used I could be having the same problem. The new ones are 2-3x the price of a GM one. I even thought about rigging up an old GM wiper motor and bolting new wipers/connections on the front... the problem with that is the cowl is steel and it'd look goofy, and I hate the idea of cutting or drilling it.

Once I get my cutlass project driveable and going I'll have no need for the jag, so I'll likely sell it in the next year or two. Not that it's a bad car, but just because I don't need two of the same - rodded coupes with bad gas mileage - and need to save $ on insurance.

There's no major electrical problems yet, just a few minor ones besides the wiper motor. But then again it has a sbc, if I were using the jag motor I would've sold it or junked it by now.

I thought this thread was about The 70's? Anyone interested in the 8-tracks I have out in my garage? :?:

Oddly enough, a neighbor of mine is JUST NOW making the transition from eight track to CD! He is nearly deaf from serving in both the Army and the Marines in Vietnam (no hearing protection and lots of weapons fire), so that probably explains why he continued on with the antiquated format for so long.
