Low end and mid-range torque sure do make Olds and Pontiac engines nice and fun for a street car. I know a lot of people withSBC in their cars(myself included) and they just don't have the off the line punch that the others do.

249 HP SBC > 110 HP buick V6

that's all i have to say about that. i really do prefer to use a pontiac engine but everyone with one just laying around wants a small fortune for it and im not in the mood to try and hunt down headers to make a pontiac work in my car. im tired of not being able to find parts for the engines i like. so yes i am giving in to the popularity of the SBC. no it is not my first choice but parts for it are cheaper, the engines as a whole are cheaper, the parts are more readily available.

i know they dont make engine blocks for BOP like they do for chevy and that's why those engines cost more, have less parts available to them and in general will give me less for my dollar.

like i said, its a daily driver so i'm ok with it being a SBC.

off the line punch carries with it a lot of factors, not just the engine but whats in it as well as gearing and many other variables.

Exactly.

Any minor problems of the SBC are easily offset in money saved. I will also add that the SBC's oil pump design is much more reliable than the Buick's as an iron housing wears less than an aluminum one.
