Why can't I race guys with those kind of reaction times.

I'm even worse, I read your post a few minutes ago and I'm just reacting to it now...

Another reason I am not a fan of trucks, a necessary evil here. Most are heavy, slow and very thirsty.

they require premium fuel and are rated at 13 mpg city and 19 mpg highway, that is terrible for a vehicle with an 8 speed transmission and we all know the actual mpg is less then what they rated it at.... very thirsty..

For a 5000 lb suv with all wheel drive, thats not terrible. Also, thats a gen 1 on the srt grand cherokee, the newer ones are quicker. Also, they go a lot faster with a little work. It's a good car to mess with if you have a need for an suv and want to play.

As for trucks being, heavy, thirsty, and slow: look into the diesel truck world. They are heavy (Like 6-9000 lbs), but they can be fast and still get 20+mpg highway.

The SRT Jeeps can be scary fast; I ran one last year on the bike. It was boosted to all holy h3ll and that thing would straight get out.It actually gave the ZX9R a bit of a fight on the highway. I'm not a dodge fan either so I'll just keep working on the single turbo setup I've been configuring for my TB.

Interesting little thing about the 6cyl TB, the engine is based of the Toyota 2jz-ge.Not the super cool 2jz but the slug N/A version. they took the 3.0 and stroked it to the 4.2L same way JUN Racing did with their 2JZ stroker kit. Interesting ain't it? That would be a cool g body swap. An inline 6 torque monster.

All trucks can go very fast, especially diesels but need big boost and mods to get there. Somehow 3/4 ton trucks aren't nightmare new big rigs are with emission related break downs. After owning a few newer Dodge's, my 77 Dodge Van ran like *ss years back. I think their engineers are on crack. Our Challenger uses too much oil and my Dakota is a joke, cracked heads etc.

14+ in a quarter mile is not scary fast. There are plenty of guys and gals in this forum who have half the gears of the STR8 that can beat it in a drag race. I don't drag but I'll put my GP against it on an asphalt circle track any day (except winter)

A 14.2 at Bandimere is about a 13.2 @ sea level for a non boosted car.

I don't see the mods being that big. On many of the newer diesels an efi live tune can make 50% more power, and they are making near 1000ft/lbs stock!
As for your bad luck with Chryslers, I don't know what to tell you except that 1977 wasn't exactly a good time for ANY automaker, your challenger is a Daimler engine (3.5 right?) so what a surprise, and your Dakota was overheated to crack the head, no? Mine has 235k and still pushes snow like a champ.
My family has only ever owned Chryslers until the 80's, and we have had a few since then, with no major flaws to complain of.

Every vehicle has its issues, we pick what we like so we can justify fixing it.

It has the 3.5L, I accidentally stretched out one oil change to just under 8000 km and has used oil ever since. Other than than the leather seat cracking and little things, it is very nice and great handling car. My experience is GM's carburetion and how they ran was way ahead Ford or Dodge. The 3.9 was making awful noise in my Dakota, so I thought why not do an easy 5.9 swap, yeah right. I have it running decent, but not ideal. The 5.9 heads crack all the time and that plenum plate is a joke. The Ram EQ heads are nice and thick aluminum plenum plate both from Hughes are the only way to go. I hear the new Dodge 5.7 trucks are finally not pigs on fuel and are nice and roomy.

The 3.9 does exactly what it was designed to do, be a replacement for the inline 6 that fits in a shorter engine bay, thats it. It is pretty reliable, but terrible on fuel with no power. Think 307 or 305.
The plenum is an issue, but an easy fix. And yeah, the 5.7's are nice. I know a bunch of people with them.

Those 3.5's are known for oiling issues that lead to valvetrain issues at an early age. They need to be meticulously maintained, just like the 4.7. It's a german motor, maintenance is common there, unlike here.

I agree stock is not scary fast. However a seriously modded one can be. Much like this one......
