Jeep Thing

they unplug and plug it back in to see if that cures the issue,
Man, I would never have thought about that high-tech solution. This reminds me of what a guy said over on the JeepForum. He said "I never intended to become a Jeep guy". I replied " Silly- no one intends to become a JEEP guy- owning a Jeep MAKES you become a Jeep guy".

the assumption on my part thinking the wire connection was the issue tuned out to be wrong. The alternator stopped working again on my drive yesterday so when I got to where I was going I played with wires but that didn't affect it. I put the battery on charge and after a while I started the Jeep and the alternator was not working so I grabbed a tool which fixed it temporarily. On my drive in this morning the alternator stopped working so I pulled onto the soft shoulder and got out with my tool and the tool fixed the alternator again. I got a new alternator today and it's all good now so I no longer have to travel with that tool any longer......

here is the tool

and the spot on the alternator when you hit the alternator with the appropriate force and number of times for the alternator to begin charging

Hmmm, wiggling wires and smacking with a "tool" helped? I would say an internal connection is suspect. And some not-with-the-program engineer located it where it is easily accessible? I would have opened it and tried to fix it. But I have been accused of being a cheap F&%$ so I guess spending money is acceptable.

I always say you keep old Dodge's running with bubble gum and bailing twine. It appears I wasn't far off.

I think jeeps suck. But you knew that.

It is working now so I think the wiring is the problem. If twisting the external wiring doesn't affect it then it is possible the internal wiring is faulty. The connector plug wiring inside the case can get loose/cruddy and if you open it you can re-solder it for an easy fix. The "BATT" terminals on all brands are famous for breaking inside when people over-tighten the nut and twist the stud. Then the wire inside gets stressed or breaks.

it looks like you nailed on the head while I beat the body with wood.... 😊

A good re-builder is a beautiful thing. My local guy is so good his parts outlast the vehicle. And he is less expensive than the chain stores. The bad part is he is as old as me so I hope his kids carry on.
