paid 2400 for it, don't think I got the best deal but I do feel I did ok. Yesterday my wife was driving the car and it started missing at idle and gradually lost power and got to the point to where it wouldn't even go up a hill. She got it home and I went out and fired it up. didn't miss when revved, just at idle. THen I noticed a whizzing sound coming from the motor. Popped the emmisions AIR hose of the air cleaner and it was pushing air through it hard. I told my neighbor it's self-turbocharged lol! I'm guessing the cat converter is plugged. My TA did the same exact thing. I'm gonna gut it when I get a day off. Also getting an edelbrock performer intake from my neighbor for 30 bucks. I plan on stock piling stuff til winter and gonna tear into it a bit. No head or cam swaps planned, but gonna do other stuff.

wish my wife wanted a elko...i'd buy it then drive it daily and give her my 4runner..

and yes the 80s camper has to go...always hated elco's with a camper on them...just never looked right IMO..

Looks like a decent start for a project. I,d stick with a quadrajet carb for economy. Places like mountain man do quality rebuilds. The feedback system is ok for stock engine as long as in tune, I,d keep for now. Cat needs to go if it,s original. 305,s were never so great for power as the factory delivered, definitely doesn't hurt if they can breathe a little. Mild performance cams help as do HO heads, TPi really perks them up for the street, but it's just the wife's car, right.

Yeah. I'm gonna fix all the stuff that's wrong with it for now and go from there. I haven't decided if I wanna do anything with the 305 or swap in something cool. I wouldn't mind going to a tpi but I'm not a fan of the 700 trans. If I could bump the 305 up to the 235hp range and still keep it reliable and on the cheap, I'd do it. I don't wanna sacrifice mpg or reliability though

So now it seems like I have a carb problem. THis has been going on since we got the car. I did a full tuneup and the car starts and runs well but it seems like when the car gets warm and idles down it idles rough and under load and with very light throttle it falls on its face and sputters around 1000 rpm. I can stomp the pedal from a dead stop and it will turna tire over and take off great. I believe the rough idle and dead spot off idle are linked. I know nothing about carbs, or even feedback carbs for that matter. Can anyone help a guy that is carb stupid?

they make an aluminum framed one i thnk has little to no drilling involved, the fiberglass one i had only had holes for the 2 shocks if i recall

I would like to get a tonneau cover also. I don't want one where I have to drill holes or anything like that. Does anyone have a suggestion?
