I've used te preval before and it's lacking the push for a metallic.if you're only spraying the motor,it's small enough of an area that your smaller compressor might be ok for if. you were spraying a hood or so i'd say you're asking to much even with the hvlp.

There should be ZERO thought on what spray gun you need. Absolutely the one from Harbor Freight. Not worth spending more $ at this point for what you're doing plus they are actually decent guns....

have you done any research on what Ribbedroof suggested?.......
Yeah, apparently it's a copy of 1 of the original Sato guns.

Also, read many pro painters claim it's more about the painter and environment than the gun.

I think that is what I'm going to do.

Now, I got to figure out how to best prep garage for spray.

I think I'm going to tarp off a corner of garage and maybe use fan to exhaust it outside. I just changed furnace filter so I may use that to filter the overspray before it blows into my neighborhood.

Thanks for the feedback Gentlemen

I'll post pics after

If you are painting an engine I wouldn't be making a paint booth. Just clean the area you working in and throw some plastic over items in the garage so you keep them clean of paint dust and if you want water down the floor in the are where you are painting

Pretty happy with it considering I have never sprayed from a gun.
Had a moment of panic at first as it was not spraying.
After I thinned it out it shot.

Only time will tell from here.
Hopeful it will hold up.

The pics look way more silver than in person

It looks great, I wish you had posted the last picture first so I wouldn't have thought you painted with all the threaded holes exposed.... :giggle:
