If your amp is not just used for subs I'd hook them to it using a 2.2 uf non polarized capacitor. Amps in head units usually have higher distortion, which will blow tweeters faster than clean power.
Alright, so in the same boat as Turna and needing dash speakers, so I did a test fit last night of the Rockford fosgates I used for years. From the mounting tabs to the top of tweeter they measure just under 1/4" depth. They mount perfect, but after installing the grille you can see it's 2/3 of the way flush. I found a decent model of kicker's, but they measure the same. If they have a metal tab I could bend them a bit to get the speaker to sit lower. The tweeter "guard" hits by a c**t hair.
There's plenty of meat in the plastic grill. Hit the backside/offending area with a 4" flap or sanding disk in a grinder. Man up.
