So. Cal
I wish ya luck on that. So far in michigan we have no emissions testing of any kind. I hope it stays that way.

Don't worry it should pass just like it did in Massachusetts 2 years ago. But what sucks is the cutoff year is 1981 so no test on cars older than that, the cutoff year in Massachusetts is 1994!Before that the cutoff year was 1983 and my car is a 1984 so i missed it by one year for a long time until now. The drive on dyno type emission tester is way too expensive for most garages to own besides being a pain in the *ss to do the test plus the machine is huge and takes up a whole garage stall. I know that California has always been very strict when it comes to pollution laws but like it says, cars that old are far and few between so there is no need to have garages pay to have the equipment for a few 80's cars. I've waited so long for them to get rid of the emission testing in my state as it was really hard to get a sticker for my car. Now it's a piece of cake, they don't stick a probe in the tailpipe any more and there is no computer to plug in to so all they do is check the safety items like, lights, horn, tires, ball joints and that's about it!

Good luck to you guys. In Canada at least in Alberta we don't emission test cars.

We used to have a collector plates that would exempt any ride 25 years or older if the initial inspection was passed, once the ride was sold it would have to reinspected again. BUT they passed a bill in '10 or so to cancel the plates and reinstate emissions testing once yearly for 82 and lower and every 2 years for 82+ and cancelled collector plates BASTARDS!! I'm a Denver licensed diesel opacity and visual inspector plus a gas emissions inspector. When i went to a refresher course sometime last year i asked why the rule came into affect. He replied and said" most 80's vehicles are junk and aren't worthy off being a classic car"... I tried to explain that most of us "younger" guys can' afford a classic Chevelle, Nova, Camaro etc etc and that G body's are next in line to being a collector.. :| So why target these rides?? :|
