Lifetime membership RANT. Sort of. Major League group.

Ooooooohhhhhh, now, I get it! I'm a little slow this morning- "projectile launchers". BING!
I really have to wonder how effective their lobbying really is. I mean, theoretically, they shouldn't have to spend a dime on presidential terms when the pendulum is in the right half of the swing. What else are they doing with the money?

The wife said we should join and become lifetime members of said "major projectile launcher" club. I get what they're trying to do, but for the last 20 years, it has become more of a "give us your money so we can have a bigger organization" rather than doing exactly what their charter is...

Bing? I believe you mean BANG!

But, this is the way of things. Netflix, Amazon Prime, satellite radio, Onstar, U👎connect, credit cards, Costco, sports, CAA/AAA, cellular services, etc. The new cash grab is upgrades and status. It is better to either disconnect or hack the system.

 keep up the good work, folks. glad to see we can have this talk without it degrading into the usual nonsense... I'd like to see said organization go back to their roots of safety, competitions, etc... but that's just me probably.

Don't forget about other "charitable" causes like Wounded Warriors, USO, Chesapeake Bay Foundation, etc.... Like Mike said, they're all the same. "Send us some money. It's tax deductible, and goes to a good cause"
So, I do, because it's a good cause and tax deductible (used to be, anyway).
3 days later: "Send us some money. It's tax deductible, and goes to a good cause"

I'm all for that particular organization BUT... is it wrong to feel like it the people that work at not for profit type places should be doing it for a reduced cost on the side, or for free? We shouldn't have to pay a CEO millions to run a place that doesn't make a profit

Its like anything else in life, it starts out with good intentions, add a taste for greed, then the plotting and scheming comes next within, of "New" ways to guilt members into spending MORE of your monies to meet the "NEW" status quo they invented up in a dark room overnight to spend it on things you grotesque and....WALLA 1596645478400.png

The road to hell is paved with good intentions.

I support the cause of said projectile launcher club and I am a member, but I wouldn't be the least bit shocked if my money was going straight into Wayne LaPierre's pocket. They've been horribly mismanaged for years. I'm sure there is loads of internal corruption and politics. I'm mostly a member for the discount I get at the LGS and Shooting Illustrated is a decent read.

That sounds like the Club that was trying to buy it's esteemed President a New House a while back, (for being such a swell guy, I guess) It was couple doors down from Glenn Beck's and Herschel Walker's house's and across from the Jonah's brothers old house.. Deal must have fell through, because Rex Tillerson ended up buying it.

My house is on the poor side of town so I don't have this drama in my neighborhood.

I gave up joining clubs and causes years ago. And thats across the board.

There's ways to contribute to meaningful things and causes without money. It also keeps things on the up and up. These days message boards are, on the whole, kind of dying out. Without a dedicated core of members driving content and offering their knowledge there's nothing left. That core can revolve, but if it gets to where almost everyone is new, threads go unanswered, people stop coming back. So while some guys don't donate money, they contribute "in kind" which can be valuable in its own way.

Clubs are the same way too. If everyone shows up to one event here or there, who makes things happen? Who plans, sets up, cleans up? Soon events are gone, people forget what they pay for, and it dissolves away.

For around 5 or 7 years anyways I was part of running a buick chat room (remember those things?) and moderating a website/list. You never saw so much bickering and politics, well, I actually guess you wouldn't have since most all was behind the scenes. Quit and even deleted the accounts after burnout.

And if/when I PAY for something, I expect a fair say in how it's run/managed for my contribution. When I know I can't get that, I keep my money. When you don't pay for it you lose the right to b*tch about how it comes out too, and be grateful for what you get. (With cite to non-monetary support of course.)

Reality is, I think enthusiasts clubs and political action groups do not mix. Let them be separate from eachother, and if anything, have separate sister orgs that can appeal to the other membership groups for separate voluntary donations to the political causes.

To the original thread topic, back in the day I attended what was called a hunters education course in our town's 17th century meeting house as a kid sponsored by that major projectile club. Really it was firearms safety and was stuff id learned from around 7 yrs old participating at the volunteer fire dept turkey shoot fundraisers. It was free, and, helped me get a weapons permit as a youngin that the town police chief endorsed for automatic and high capacity.

I dunno if they still do much like that given the political climates. Especially in a town under 500 residents given their finances. But it's what they once did 30-something years back
