Good afternoon gentlemen, im a lifetime car guy and recent gbody fan. Ive got a cutlass im restoring and im curious to know where you all are aquiring your restoration parts. Im a former foxbody and c10 owner and there were countless venders supplying reproduction parts of all kinds. Just by reading the threads here it seems like a lot of you buy from junkyards or buy parts cars. And id like to know if this is the more cost effective or is it the only option?
The g cars don't have a huge aftermarket or at least not yet. I have had to recondition a lot of parts for my malibu. I would check with Toby p on here. He has reproduced parts for the cutty.
If you take yours apart keep everything until you find repops or n.o.s parts.
I've owned my 87 MC for 4 years now and even though some parts are a dime a dozen others are
almost impossible to find. Case in point , my car has manual crank windows. Trying to find a manual
window regulator in decent shape was a horrible let down. Finally I found a set from a forum member on here.
But companies making new ones or repop's ? NONE. Electric motors w/ regulators can be had easily.
Looking at over $600 a pair. Lighting around the car can be expensive, even used parts are not cheap.
My rear tail lights cost me over $260 for the pair. They were new but not OEM.
Just a glass headlamp for an 87 LS MC is $120 and up. In good condition.
Door panels, interior parts in the right colors to match are very hard to find.
Even though a lot of the parts can be shared by more than one model, buick, pontiac, chevy, olds
had different shades of like colors in the interiors. and in photo they can look very similar.
and you can buy what looks like a matched set only to find they are not the same shade.
Ask me how I know this. Ebay.

Yeah I've checked on there. The stuff listed has no photo's and I called on several items in my state
and the vendors said the items were already sold. So The listing is not always accurate as far as updating
whats been sold off.
The issue is most replacement parts have been long discontinued and more and more parts are being discontinued right and left. Outside of LS swap parts and fancy racing suspension parts, there is otherwise little G body support. Even junkyards have slim pickings now with G bodies. For example, nobody makes new rear windshield glass or quarter window glass.
I do have some luck with Rockauto and GM Parts Direct, and other GM part vendors. But don't be surprised if they cancel your order because the part is recently discontinued.
There are a lot more G-Body parts now than 10 years ago when I started reconditioning my GP. If this trend continues, we might be better off in a few years. I had to either manufacture the parts required, or recondition the ones I had. Chrome is especially problematic -- costs an arm and a leg to recondition/re-chrome (but looks great afterwards).
YES YES YES, you can spend a small fortune on replacement parts and having parts rechromed .
And then when you go to finally wanting to part with your ride nobody wants to pay what your asking for it.
And If you tell them you have $8K invested in it they laugh.
