Taking a look at the Extreme Automatic's stage 2 2004r, it seems to be more much more transmission than what you need. Can't see you needing billet forward drum on a mild 350 and those are like $400 by themselves and I don't see the need for a billet servo either.

With that said, I would call Lonnie at Extreme Automatic and get the info you need from one of the best in the biz. Also, I can't see going the 700r4 route as being a good idea. Stick with the 2004r. Just talk to Lonnie.

Hey I was thinking the same thing about the stage 1 transmission from Extreme Automatics....so are you saying that the stage 1 transmission from Extreme Automatics is comparable to the stage 2 transmission from Bowtie Overdrives?? (Based on the quotes/descriptions posted earlier)

And howcome you don't agree with the 700r4 route??

I run EA transmission stage 1 that Lonnie built for me. I beat the living $hit out of it. I run a 2800 stall with 3:42 8.5 posi and love it. BTW, I bought it though Gbodyparts.com.

I guess Lonnie is the guy to talk to.

Like I mentioned earlier, I'm going to do a 3.73 posi rear end. Still trying to resolve this transmission issue.

Not sure what DoubleV's reasons are but I assume they're similar to mine.

Extra expense for a trans that really isn't any better than the TH-2004R.

As mentioned you'll need a shorter driveshaft, different crossmember and an adapter plate between the trans and engine since the transmission is a Chevy only pattern.

I'm also not a fan of the large spread between first gear and second gear compared to the TH-2004R but I know others who run the TH-700R4 don't seem to be bothered by it. After driving a vehicle with both I just feel the TH-2004R gear spread works better all around.

So between Bowtie Overdrives, Extreme Automatics, and Monster Transmissions.....who do you recommend and do you think $2,000 is ok to spend on a stage 2 2004r including the conversion package (tv cable, converter, speedo gears, etc)?

I can't really say as I've never dealt with any of those companies.

I bought my TH-2004R from Art Carr way back in 1999/2000.

I paid around $2600 for their trans rated to 800hp/650ftlbs, 2200 stall and shipping. I had everything else already since I was replacing my existing TH-2004R.

That trans lasted behind my 455 daily for probably 4-5 years before the converter started to go. I pulled it from the car to install a T-56 and gave it to my brother who was also having converter and trans trouble (interestingly enough he also had a 2200 stall converter from Art Carr).
He had it flushed and installed a new JW 3000 stall converter in front of it and installed it in his '81 behind the 403 and it's still going strong.

So just to make sure I'm clear on this; all you're saying is I need to swap out my motor mounts and my Olds 350 will fit fine?

Is that a difficult process to do?

You need to swap the frame mounts. The part that bolts to the frame.

You will also need the engine mounts for a 260/307 Cutlass. Those will bolt to the engine and will mate up to the frame mounts.

If you've got the body off the frame like you show in the picture it'll be a cinch. Worst part will be getting a socket to the backside of the frame bolts because you have to go up through the frame where the spring sits. Still not all that hard.

Hey Buddy, I know it's been a few months since we spoke on this topic, but I just wanted to clarify something you told me to make sure I'm making the right move....

You stated that I would need to also swap out my frame mounts because a 350 Olds Rockey want fit with the frame mounts I currently have..... Which frame mounts should I be looking for to swap out with????

You need both of those in the above pictures. Since your frame mounts are for something other than an Olds, you'll need the Olds specific mounts. Then you'll also need the engine mounts (for an Olds) that bolt to the engine which in turn bolt to the frame mounts.

Any particular year?? Will any Olds frame mounts due?

Frame mounts from any Cutlass equiped with a 307. Post in the Wanted section here and I'm sure you can find a set. The rubber engine mounts can be gotten at any local parts store.

Thank you all a lot. Matter of fact, I think I will post a request for those frame mounts in the wanted ad. If you run across any, feel free to let me know.....thanks again!
