Looking for a 2.73 ratio rear end for Malibu

You will need 28-spline axles with your Torsen. Your 7.5 has 26 spline axles. Grand National 8.5 axles used 28-splines, but all other dimensions on the axle shafts were the same as 7.5s so buy a used set from someone who upgraded, or some replacements from Summit Racing.

I plan to watch this thread, as I have a 1980 Malibu axle and a 3.73 Torsen from a 2000 Camaro. I have not yet had the time the swap the differentials.
But my question is, doesn't my Malibu have the 28 spline axles already?

Damm... I new it wasn't plug and play. Now I need to find axles. Any other specification on the torsen posi that I need to be aware of?

Thanks for the site. Since I recently installed transmission I need to know if the overdrive is working, let me explain. I removed the th200 which had a 2 prong connector. The 2004r has a 4 prong connector I really don't know where to connect the 2 prong into the 2004r. In the 2004r there is only 3 connections even thou it's a 4 slot plug. Heck I didn't even know the th200 had a electrical connection. I dont think my 80 Malibu has a computer.... Very confusing..
Planning to replace TH200 with a TH200-4R in my 80 Malibu station wagon. Understand I will have to relocate the rear transmission support aft and purchase they Lokar kick down kit. Any other issues?

I installed transmission with no issues. Only thing that I had to find was the cross member for the 2004r and the trans mount.

I finally got the Torsen put into the Malibu housing. The bearings all fit, no problem, but the 28-spline GN axle shaft ends are made for the 8.5" differential. 1. the C-clip grooves have a larger inner diameter, so I bought some 8.5" replacement C-clips from RockAuto and ground the outside diameter down to fit the Torsen. 2. The ends of the axle shafts past the C-clip channels needed to be machined down to 0.80". I took the measurement from the F-body axle shafts and had a friend at the local machine shop cut them down.
