Ok new idea now thanks to 81cutlass. Converting my draw through to a blow through system. 86 grand national exaust and turbo, blow through carb, some sort of timing retard set up. What do you think?

When I suggested the newer 3800 motor I was talking stock. Didn't even know there was a way to put anything but one of those crappy ebay turbos on that one. Even Stock a newer 3800 puts the motor that came w/ that car to shame. The flat band of torque delivered at low rpm would really wake it up. Messing w/ obsolete turbo stuff sounds like a recipe for burnt piston rings / blown headgaskets imo but that's just me. I would go for ironclad reliability. When the weather's not good I would rather not have a turbo and know my car is going to keep going down the highway. Obsolete turbo stuff is only cool if you happen upon it, if you seek it out it's a pain getting everything together b/c it end up costing more than just building a huge v8 and arriving at more hp for the same dollar. Just an opinion though, I think lots of people would concur it's kind of a waste to spend a few grand and wind up w less power than a 350 would have done cheaper. Idk where you live but people are selling 3800 motors for a few hundred $ and so many for sale around here, nobody buying them.

* oh and I forgot to add one thing sry for the dbl post but the turbo motors can easily grenade the stock rear end but whereas w the 3800 it doesn't surge hard enough to cause you to have to build a new rear end. Just saying.

Don't know anything about turbos, but yes, this sounds like the most sensible thing to do.

Using the term rare might not be 100 percent accurate, though, comparably speaking, the number produced is much lower than a lot of, or the majority of, other editions of the A/G Body cars stamped out 1978-1988. It's what makes the car unique.

Also for consideration is the car's value. If you throw all kinds of aftermarket parts and customizations at a car, you always have to keep in the back of your mind what you could get out of the car when done. A highly modified car with $100,000 in receipts realistically will never be worth what's into it. G-Bodies aren't 1970 Chevelles or 1969 Chargers. That's bad in some ways but great in many other ways. You might not want to sell it or ever plan to, but it's always something to think about because you never know what might happen.

You wouldn't believe the number of nice G-bodies that have been parted out and scrapped in desperation for cash after they've been redone. I've seen it happen on here numerous times.

On the other hand, an affordable car subtly improved conservatively and cost-effectively is usually the best way to go.

I agree with both of you to some point. 3800 are cheep and plentiful. I think it would throw a lot of people for a loop if I had a turbo 3800. Would look a lot like it belongs in the car, and if you grenade it go get another one for 300 bucks. I like this blow through idea. The idea of converting my engine to blow through is a good one too. But it would not be cheep and if it blows up getting another engine or parts might be hard. I did find a 3800 96 comaro cheep the other day. Thanks guys. Keep the ideas coming!

Does not need a turbo and will drop in with only a few modifications but does need extra hood clearance and a fat wallet

I have a 700 horse nova already that I don't drive because it is not very street able. 427 punched and stroked. Merlin heads full roller engine. 9.1 compression. 456 gears, full posie rear. 3500 stall. Gorgeous car, but just sits in the garage. My inheritance from my father. I am in love with Montes not novas. I love high horse power engines but want the car to be a driver. My brother has a 500 horse 396 in a prostreet vega!

I have been researching the 3800 thing. They say that bottom end in super charged engine are not as strong as early years. So boost levels are limited. Guys are saying use older 3800 iners and the super charger and boost away. Even found after market turbo kit and custom tuned ecu. Grand national guys are playing with these engines now.
