lowering the rear suspension 2 or 3 inches

I don't know if this will help or if it is what you are looking for, but, you can use the rear factory springs from 68-72 Chevelle or Mont Carlo or similar body types the spring rate is a little higher and they will lower the rear about 2-3 inches. It's what I have in my car. Hope this helps.
