I realized I didn't finish my comment before. I stayed with my sbc just for the sake of getting the car running soon and not worry about the ls and supporting parts at the time.
That's kind of my take I already have the ls so I don't have to buy it. It would probably take the same effort to figure out what's wrong and rebuild it as to just drop the ls in it. If I insist on efi I will need so many more parts, time and effort. I'm going to wait and see what comes my way and how the money is before I buy anything but I'm really leaning toward just dropping a carb on it and enjoying it for a while. I can then do other things I want to do to the car, take my time and gather everything. I have a list of things like brakes suspension. It drives like a boat. Wheels. If I do the carb I might be able to swing some nice wheels. If I do the efi that's it for a while. Then it pull it out, bore it 4.065 (basically making it an ls3 6.2ltr) and dropping it in efi at that point.
