Your Vortec can easily and inexpensively converted for non-computer status with an appropriate intake, carb and distributor. That makes it an very attractive option. As for the transmission -- you would be money ahead to sell it with the transfer case and buy a standard 200 4R or 700 R4 and add a lock-up kit. The 4L60E that you have will not run without some sort of computer control, whether it be GM or aftermarket (TCI, etc). That will be either complicated or expensive.

Vortec without computer, fuel injection, or electronic ignition.... I'd lose interest in the engine then.

The whole appeal of having the Vortec is the newer technology, and throttle response and control of having the computer regulate things.
I'm not good w/ tuning a carb. Never have been. Nor have I ever learned how to set timing. I don't wanna be bothered with it changing, having to get it set again, etc.

If I can't keep my computer, fuel injection, electronic ignition and electric trans.... I don't want it.
Fine. Keep it. I apologize for trying to keep it simple. From the the questions you asked I wrongly assumed you didn't have a bunch of money or mechanical experience. I love EFI engine swaps. I'll be watching your progress.

I don't have a bunch of money, but I do have time because it's not my primary transportation. I'd rather take my time and do it right, the way I want it, than just throw it together because it's 'simple'.

harnesses like that are made to order and he will eliminate what you want or change things around for you but usually they are between 600-800 dollars. Ive installed a few and trust me they are well worth it if you have the cash. I dont have the cash so when I did my EFI swap I used stock camaro harness for the injection and made it work....just had to route it and shorten it here and there and eliminate a few things. I have installed them in a few street rods for customers with LS1 swaps.

You say you have installed a few of the ready-made harnesses? On what kinda cars?

You don't have the cash so you made your stock camaro harness work?

I'm not following, you have installed a few 'ready-made' harnesses but you can't afford one? :?:

What exactly have you installed in the street rods for customers? The kind you made work or the Custom made kind?
