Hey I am just wondering what would not work right if I remove computer? My car was originally 231 v6/200c setup and I have since put in a 350 v8/700r4 setup. I have heard that computer still operates tcc lockup and certain things use the computer to achieve ground...does anyone know if this is true? And/or anything else?

I assume nothing is left connected to the computer with the engine and transmission change so nothing will change if you remove the computer. There are kits sold to lock up the torque converter or there are ways to wire it up to lock it.

I removed the wiring from the engine...still have the harness in the car. There are some wires that are needed to run the blower motor, etc. Not sure which ones, but if you turn the key on, some of them will have voltage. Ever since my swap, my blower motor wont work. It runs on 12 volts directly, but not from the dash. I think some of the wiring from the passenger side of the car operates the a/c and heater. If you remove all of them, you may have to rewire the blower motor to make it work.

from my experience ( when removing the ccc from my 84 monte ss ) its a stand-alone harness. Every bit of it was removed along with thier respective sensors and the only thing I lost was the lockup function for the torque convertor. I
The CCC harness comes out its own spot on the firewall below the HVAC box behind the wheelwell. Its not tied in with the blower or any other systems. Once removed I retained every other feature ( cruise, heat, ac, power windows) and gained a check engine light 🙂

Olds CCC systems control the HVAC, Buick and Chevy CCC systems don't. Every brand used different computer and emission setups. Most Olds CCC systems lack a knock retard system that Buicks and Chevys use. When I did my 231 V6 to SBC/TH2004R swap I swapped out my old V6 computer harness for a Chevy V8 CCC harness and ECM out of a Monte Carlo SS. Surprisingly easy and simple to do. I am guessing you swapped in a Chevy 350? I Then just pull the computer harness and ECM out of a V8 MC in a junk yard. Even if it is not a L69 (SS) computer you can always get a L69 or ZZ4 PROM and intall it into the computer. If you have a Olds 350 then just get a Olds V8 CCC harness and ECM out of a V8 Cutlass or Regal. The CCC doesn't care about CID.

I don't know why people yank their computer out and downgrade to 1970's tech. Mine works great and saves gas. It's easier to tune too, just watch the fuel dwell reading. Also keeps the car street legal which is something some of us must still contend with.

I believe that this statement is FALSE unless all of the original equipment is retained along with a stock CID unmodified engine. My .02

I took mine out and upgraded to a 355 roller with vortec heads and a 5 speed stick, If I keep it at 60 mph I get 26.8 mpg. I never got that with a computer street legal version

Yea I put a sbc 350 in, and I have plenty of new tech in my car now. I have an air/fuel monitor and programmable msd box. Now if the olds ccc controls the hvac and I swap in a computer from a monte which you say doesn't control the hvac...won't I have the same problem as if I just removed the olds ccc? I know right now out of the computer harness I think 3 wires for hvac/heat are being used. I think, I really just want to remove it so I can clean up engine bay and because my boat anchor 231 v6 is NEVER EVER EVER going back in this car lol. Is there any easy way of removing the computer and harness and rewiring the 3 wires I still use? I am pretty sure my tcc is not controlled through it, I built my 700r4 and tcc is controlled by pressure switch internally and just maintained the use of the brake cutoff switch to disengage tc when braking.

Engine can be modified with EPA/CARB approved performance parts, such as the old TES headers, or using a intake with EGR provision. They don't care if you modify the engine as long as you don't disable the low emission systems which includes the computer system. The rule is the engine must be the same year or newer than the car, and the engine must retain all of the engine's factory low emission controls (which mine does). So while it is illegal to install a big block or 350 BOPs, it is legal to install a LT1 or a 6.2L LS3 with their full emission system because their newer instead of older.

Pontiacgp, mainly because you have a manual trans swap. CCC got the same MPGs as EFI of the time. Your old CCC may have been out of wack and needed repair or adjustment. Most of the time it is a engine problem that gets the CCC blamed. The CCC can't work right on a engine that isn't running right like vacuum leaks. Most people let their cars run ragged and only gear heads take any decent care of them. I hate to say it but these days you would get rear ended in the slow lane for doing 60. But air drag is much worse at speeds over 60 with every car, it's why the limit used to be 55, to save gas.

84cutsupreme, you would need a HVAC harness out of a V8 MC too. Olds did things differently in the 80s from the rest of GM. They stuck with hot air chokes and used vacuum idle speed controls and didn't use ESC until 87.

no 305 ccc engine will come close to my 355 for fuel economy or power whether it's standard or automatic. Alot has to do with the vortec heads on my engine, the heads on the 305 are junk
