So, would the lt1 trans fit without drilling the crank then? And whats wrong with using the adapter bearing? Is there a downside to it?

If you use the adapter bushing that McLeod uses it still has to be drilled.

When I called and talked to Mcleod to find out exactly how to install the bushing they guy mentioned how even though they offer the adapter bushing they really prefer the longer input shaft of the LS1 because you get more support. He didn't really say what the downsides were other than that.
I already had the LT1 trans so that's what I was working with.

Ok, thanks for all the help!

Anyone know of where to get a stock replacement flywheel for an olds motor? Or an inexpensive aftermarket one?

I used this one from ebay store .called FastForward AC. !66 tooth Olds billet flywheel p/n PC2513 made by SpeedMasters. 139.00 plus 30.00 shipping. They have a tech line 909 418 7768. I ordered it on the 9th of May and got it on the 14th of May. Check out my post "307 out and 350 in. What did I do wrong?". It works flawlessly. But I'm feeling the need for another gear, so I may be going your route also.
