Still in the shop. He forgot to order the gear drive and they forgot to send the mounts. Hoping by the end of the week.

$3000 seems alot for a used motor... even with low kms.
... it seems to be a good combo, and even if it was recently built, he should not be asking much more than $1000 or $1500.

$4000 is what they charge for a FRESH rebuild (atleast that's the performance shop price around Ottawa). So, $3000 on a used motor seems like alot.

Gotta agree it is allot for a used motor. Harts in Cecil Ohio charged me 900 for a shortblock 350 4 bolt main with a towing cam and double roller timing chain, flat top pistons and molly rings. Nothing amazing but definately worth the money. They also take tradeins and they can build just about anything you want from full out race to a daily driver. I think they also have a website.

Dude I hate to rain on your parade but thats expensive no matter what way you cut it....

$4000 for a typical headed 350 and $1000 to install a small block.

I bought a brand new crate motor from the Chevy dealer here it was,$1750 delivered with a 3year 50,000 mile warranty That sounds way to spendy for a used motor.

ding. You can get a damn crate 383 for like $2300.

OK, the engine is $3000. The rest is for the install. other things included are: towing the car, replacing my manifolds for headers (plus any exhaust mods needed), the gear drive, new mounds, an approved flexplate, new hoses and belts, new starter, possibly repairing my a/c, and a tune up from one of the most sought after engine tuner/builders in my area. Plus he backs all his work up. It may be a bit high priced, but the quality of his work is worth it. The engine makes between 400-450HP as it sits right now, but I'm having him tune it down a bit with a smaller intake (Performer) and carb (Edelbrock). The engine comes with the build sheet and dyno sheet. The engine was also broke in on a dyno.

And considering the prices most mechanics charge in my city this isn't a bad deal. In the past 2 years I paid $2500 to have my 7.5 rebuilt (yes... I know), $12oo to have my breaks redone, $260 to have my speedo gears re calibrated, and the list goes on. And it's a 4 hour highway trip to get to the next big city with good prices. But that's to inconvenient (considering I had to get my car towed). Sad;y this will put me over $20k on this damn car. But other than the transmission everything is new lol.

The cheapest crate in town was a stock 350 from GM. They wanted more than what I'm paying to have it installed. I looked into that too.

And none of the machine shops in my city have a good reputation, so paying them the $2500 they wanted just to rebuild a 350 to stock specs wasn't really worth it either.

I considered buying a used 350. But with that there is no guarantee that it's gonna even run. Plus I would have to pay a mechanic $800-$1000 just to swap it straight over to my car (no new parts, just to swap it). Sure that would have been cheaper, but it would have been a gamble. And since my Malibu is also my DD I didn't want to take that risk.

But how much delivered to Canada? And that engine makes a lot less power than the one I got. And as an added bonus I don't have to break mine in lol.

should be nice to get the car back. Now start saving your $$ for a trans because it won't like the change in TQ from the 305 to this monster. It's one thing after another when swapping into higher HP motors. My new motor ate my trans x2 and made my brakes and peg-leg rear feel very inadequate. It's all better now but the upgrades that had to be made to the car to handle the new motor cost as much or more than the motor did.

Last time I added up the receipts I was at about $7k in upgrades for a 14 sec car and I did 99% of the work myself.
