The straight six I agree with. But points? The question remains- WHY? Back then we scrounged HEI distributors from wherever we could just to get rid of the points. Why would anyone continue with building cars with points just from a maintenance perspective? Basic Cheapola thinking? Seems counter-productive.

Here's pics of my back seat from my '81. Might be easier for you to compair since you know what yours look like.
So, I came across a straggler of the 1981-1984 regal red pallex cloth - it was a door panel that I salvaged as the cardboard was water damaged but the cloth was nice. Again, hoarding as this is the cloth in every one of my current regals.

So, if your idea was maybe a different car to be seeking some ready to use front buckets that would match an existing bench... maybe?

But in the regals earlier models had a plastic back on the front buckets like a cutlass gets. Later years had a flat cloth back.

I don't think the points distributor is factory. The fuel pump looks to have a sediment bowl too. I still don't doubt that it was born with an inline though. Maybe just not sure it was this inline.

I've had points on all my chevelles since 1983. I've had no complaints about them. Do I race the cars? No. I happen to like to keep it original, and prefer the smaller diameter cap. And the separate, stand alone oil filled coil. A coworker, of mine, has talked about EMP's and he jokes that my chevelle, and some old studebaker will be the only cars running. The last big natural EMP was the Carrington event, in 1859. Guess it wreaked havoc with the telegraphs of that time.

True, but it often is

There is no listing in the books I looked in for either an export or inline 6 shroud. BUT, it does have Hecho En Mexico cast in, so it obviously was locally produced. How many other components were locally sourced, I have no idea. Did they assemble parts imported form the US, or did they stamp/cast/sublet parts locally in that time frame in Mexico?
I’ve been in that plant. There is no stamping capability and frames are brought in via rail.
