I see too many first timers try to cut corners because of lack of funds or knowledge and it usually ends up with an engine failure.
I get trying to save some money but the mistake was already made by not marking the mains to begin with so do you really want to make a second mistake by playing a guessing game on what caps go where.
What you are suggesting works in theory but not in reality, it might spin freely on an engine stand but once there is a load on a running engine the bearing clearances and crank alignment become critical and if they are not within spec. then it will only be a matter of time before it fails and that little bit of money you saved will not compare to cost of the possible damage.
