There is this diesel powered GN clone.


Also there is a wood gas powered El Camino.

I always thought a 6.2 or 6.5 turbo would be a natural (and easy) swap in an El Camino but I've never seen one.
 
10x more awesome but also 10x more complicated and expensive. 6.2/6.5 would literally bolt in and be ridiculously easy to plumb and wire.

Yea but so worth it my pickup just blows my mind and the wreckers at work have that 6.5 and there slugs. If I could afford to do the swap I would put a lbz in the square body crew

That would make perfect sense in a working Clydesdale like your squarebody. You absolutely should.
My experience with the older Detroits makes me think they'd be a pretty good match. It's not like you'd ever haul or tow too much with an El Camino but occasionally it'd be nice to have a little extra torque. My dad had an old GMC van at work with a 6.2 that they had for 20 years. Always got 20mpg or better and never a problem outside regular maintenance. I should have bought it when it was retired. Sold for $800.
