Motor mount & Header choice

Wish I knew a way to add comments to the pictures on a pic by pic basis instead of having to wait until they are all uploaded. Anyway, By comparing what I ended up with, with a picture of a stock mount, you can get some idea of how much I removed and from where. The first iteration had a straighter and shallower drop in it from the back flange to the bolt ear. I thought about that some more and elected to remove just about an 1/8 of an inch more, and do it in such a fashion that I ended up with a radiused curve that started just about beside the bolts and ended just before the ears. The intent was to create the deepest pocket possible while still leaving the ears as original as possible in terms of outer dimensions. Comments??

Flowtech has the best fitting headers for sbc gbody if your on a budget. I run flowtech on all mine no problem. If you want to save some money and dont mind some dents or scratches go to holleys ebay account and buy from there damaged section saving you 50 plus dollars on a set of headers. My last set I saved 100 dollars buying from the damaged section and spent a few minutes straighten the header collector flanges and that was all that was wrong with them.

Now I have to wonder, are FlowTech and Flowmaster manufactured by the same company or are they two different systems that happen to share a similar name?

Ahh, the joys of google. Flowtech and Flowmaster are separate products but they are both manufactured and offered by Holley. So, effectively, it makes them sort of similar. If you run a search for either system, you end up on the Holley site and get to go through the icons to get to the header page where you have to check off which model, tech or master, you wish to surf. All this aside, if the Flowtechs are manufactured using the same templates as the Flowmasters, then they still won't fit an SBC in a G-Body with the clamshell motor mounts.

dont think they use the same templates. flowtech works with solid motor mounts and or factory sbc clamshells with no modifications. the only flowmaster headers i knew that worked were the emission friendly ones they quit making a while ago that lots of gbodys would run in magizine articles in the 90's and early 2000's.

Im using Schoenfeld 1 3/4 tubes on my 81 and theres no issues at all. The only thing I had to do was reroute the brake line that runs from the left to right because it was close to the tube.

Sweet!. Wish I had been made aware that there was difference between the FlowTech and the Flowmasters even though they are both made and offered by the same supplier.
On that note, I just picked up copy of the latest ish of a popular specialist Chevy oriented magazine and its contents included a tech how to the installation of a complete Flowmaster exhaust system into a A-Body. Not being really interested in the text, I went straight for the pictures and surprise, surprise, surprise, there were my headers being bolted up to a small block, only this mill had the early motor mounts on it. Back pedal a page or two and it turned out the car was a 66 Malibu. Since A-Bodies of any kind are about as common as titanium in North America, and cost about as much if you do find one, think I will stick to the project I have.
