Motor wont run unless timming is advanced help!

Try jumping all the spark plugs from the disturbrator cap to the left .and if that works..some time plp miss it by a thooth and changes the timeing
 
Make sure number one cylinder is at tdc then check the static alignment of 0 degrees on the timing tab with the line on the harmonic balancer. Of course you have to use another method to find tdc other than the tab and balancer. If it is a sbc, the rotor should be pointing toward number 1 cylinder. Possible problems are like the guy said, the outer ring on the hb has slipped. The hb and the timing chain cover may not be correct for each other. Or the distributor may be installed a tooth off. I start out using the initial advance shown in manuals or on the emissions decal. Then I power time taking into consideration centrifugal and vacuum advance using a set-back timing light.
