These would use the pills similar to MSD you would just buy the RPM pill you need if the ones that come with it aren't what you want..
the digital 6al does away with that. its just two little dials behind a little flap on the front.

how much are the components for the distributor?. I modified an HEI once to run an MSD box and that box failed in the middle of the nite. I was lucky to have the original components for the HEI in the truck so I was able to refit the distributor to get the car home. I now run a MSD 6 box with an E curve distributor. The E curve can run on the box or on it's own so if the box ever fails on me now I have the wiring set up to run the distributor without the box. On all our race cars we ran 2 MSD boxes cause they are not very dependable so we had a backup.

As a past driveability tech using oscilloscopes a lot and having close relations with Jacobs Electronics (Which as I remember MSD later bought out)
I can see no benefit on an electrical ignition that is much better then HEI. I have had aftermarket ignitions and on past vehicles(albeit all stock) and installed others on customer cars and the only one I saw benefit(I think) was a Jacobs unit that I was field testing before production. It later failed into walk home mode.
When I had my shop one of my techs had a dodge charger and said he picked up a electronic distributor and was saving money for the Dodge harness and gold box. I told him to pull in shop and put it on the scope and we had 22k secondary voltage. I put a GM 4 pin module, a Toyota Supra coil and his distributor together and we had 50k secondary voltage, with an awesome scope pattern. Opened plug gap to .040 and he said it was like a new car.
I know a lot of that stuff sounds cool.....but does it work?
