*MUST READ* Vehicle Mileage Tax forthcoming

LOL you liberals really trust Obama? He says no know but give it time. All I know is I didn't vote for that piece of trash.

Obama also said that the public would get 4 days to read any and all legislation, and that it would be posted online. If Obama is not a liar, then why, oh why did the Conference Committee version of the stimulus package get pushed through without public oversight? Hell, the House and Senate didn't even get to read it before it was voted on! Supposedly it needed to be done immediately, but Obama waited for a prime photo op, 4 days later, before he signed it. It seems to me that if it was going to be 4 days before it could be signed by the President, then those 4 days could have been used for oversight instead. Also, if it were so damn important to be passed immediately, it should have been signed that day instead of wasting time and jet fuel on a Presidential photo op.

Anyhow, political topics are for the Off Topic section, so I am moving it there.

This idea came about because the dollars generated from the Federal fuel tax has been slipping because people are buying less gasoline. So how do you fund highway construction with fewer dollars? Raise the tax rate? Slow construction?

Steve do you get lonely being the only Obama apologist here? lol

Its called your state's gas tax and the states need to cut spending and balance their falling budget just let the rest of the households in the country.

Another thing that is stupid, Deval Patrick wants to raise the gas tax in Massachusetts already. I think it's .27 cents a gallon. He already raised the cigarette tax over $1.00......People will get sick of this and go to one of the bordering states and buy their stuff there. Then Massachusetts will really be hurting for money and nothing coming in.

Boy we really need Mitt Romney back here.

You fund highway programs by taking money from other unnecessary programs like AFDC, Federal housing assistance, the National Endowment for the Arts, EPA, (all of which need to die anyhow) etc. Either that, or you just don't do some projects. If it has to be raised by taxes, raise gas taxes, don't put tracking devices in people's cars. That way, when I build my WVO powered Benz for the upcoming governmental collapse, I can avoid the tax all together... (Just (sorta) kidding!). I would also like to see a $2500 a year tax on hybrid drivers, and a $4,000 a year tax on electric car drivers half of which would be given as a subsidy to drivers of inefficient vehicles like large trucks and older cars like ours. This would stop the market demand for efficient cars and technologies and piss off the environmentalists.

Good point. Hybrid and electric vehicles should be taxed higher, as they use less fuel, but use the roads the same amount as a vehicle that pays more through the gas tax.

...not to mention most Hybrids don't get great mileage anyways. We have an Escape Hybird at work that is rated for 41/40mpg... it gets 24mpg!!!!!! I bet a regular Escape doesn't get much, if any less than that.

The almighty Prius only gets 40mpg or so in the real work at best. My 16 year old TBI Saturn can top that with a light foot. All that complexity, and expensive batteries (which are great for the environment BTW) for what? Tree huggers are so short sighted and swallow whatever lies they are fed as long as they are told it will save the world.

Some day, hybrid or electric cars may be a worthwhile investment, but right now they are useless and still need a ton of improvement.

Tony, there IS a Federal gas tax. Your apology is accepted.

I never said there wasn't.. but the majority of the gas tax goes to local and state. You're welcome! Same principle still applies though... Amercians have to do without, so should the Federal Gov - time for them to cut back.

On another note, there was an article awhile back that said the Hummer H2 was actually more 'green' than the Prius. Don't tell that to those snobby hippies who think they're saving the planet by voting for Obama and driving a Prius.
