Best battery for a vehicles that sits for months?

Battery tenders are alot cheaper than a new battery. They do a great job
I thought about using tenders to keep both of my cars fresh but recently a friend of mine had one short out in his garage while it was hooked to his Camaro. He was extremely lucky that he was in the garage working on his other car when it happened. Not sure of the brand. Might have been a cheap one knowing my friend.

I've had good luck with the Battery Tender brand. I bought my dad a Snap On on years ago and that thing lasted like 10 years, plugged in for most of it.

My big issue with the shut off switch is Holley's, crappy overpriced Terminator X Max. It takes forever to learn and I don't want start over in the spring.
FYI.....the Holley EFI ECU's will not lose their tunes, settings or learn values if you take their power away.

It's all stored in NV memory (non volatile) similar to how you wouldn't lose your odometer numbers in your dash from dead battery.

My thoughts exactly...

Yeah, it seems to have actually held it's tune this time, it didn't the last couple of times. I opened the throttle blades a bit more and the stupid thing is actually learning and running much better.

Are AGMs supposed to be any better for intermittent use? I know they have a handful of other advantages.

Was just at my local Sam's Club...

Decent deal on dual terminal AGM 34/78 Group

Yes they tend to self discharge less when sitting unused for extended periods vs traditional flooded battery. The electrolyte in flooded batteries tend to bring on sulfation in the plates quicker than the AGM cells.

They have problems too if they're left sitting with low state of charge, in order to get back to fully charged but that's what the AGM chargers and tenders are designed to prevent.

Usually I like to have multiple examples before I praise something but this time I don't. Only one story.

My 08 Allure Super has a battery that battery that is so buried. It's a pain to remove. I had to loosen the fuse box and radiator support bar and tilt the battery 90 deg to remove or replace it. I think they installed it before the engine. V6's are not the same. So to avoid tilting a lead acid battery. I bought it a Motomaster Eliminator AGM battery.

Last year I had to store it in a place I had no access to. Drove it in, disconnected the battery and returned 6 months later with a multimeter, booster cables and a car to jump it. I was sure the battery was going to be dead.

Leads on the battery said 12.5v! So I connected the battery leads, started it up and drove it home.

I'm confident a lead acid would not have been 12.5 after sitting for a 6 months.

I like those dual terminal batteries.... the side posts for deticated vehicle starter/engine/electricals, the top posts for deticated aftermarket ECM/EFI system, mid range stereo system, lightbar, RGB LEDs, etc.

Glad to hear a first hand account. I am leaning towards the cheaper Eliminator AGM.
