I know many of you guys have alot more knowledge about cars besides just G-bodies, so I figured I'd see what you can tell me. So heres the deal: a buddy of mine has a rear out of a late 80's 5.0 Mustang. I can pick it up pretty cheap, but I don't know if its worth it. So heres the questions, what rear is it? What is the difference in dimensions from a GM 7.5, and is there any shot at the lug offset being the same size? Getting someone to weld mounts for the springs won't be a problem if needed, which I figure is. BTW, this is in hopes of putting into my 84 Cutlass Supreme in preparation of the motor swap. Thanks

On a side note ... isn't the factory rear end in our cars know as the 7.5 inch GM and also as the 10 bolt GM?

How strong are they, how much HP will the factory rear handle, and where can I get a posi traction unit for it?

I know that you can get custom 9" rears with disc brakes for like $2,500 ... but they has got to be a good bargin combination to get a strong rear end and disc brakes.

Do a search on this board. Pretty sure it was here that some one had a good step by step install of a mustang 8.8 diff in a g body.

Jonnyslick... there have been more than a few sizes of gm 10 bolts over the years.
The 7.5 in the G body was not a very strong one. The only exception being the buick turbo cars and the 442 olds. they had the 8.5

unfortunately there is no easy way to put good disc's in the rear of our cars. (i don't consider the eldorado brakes "good"--adequate yes) i guy here did make a ford fox body 8.8in fit. i'm in the process of finding out wheather a b-body (95 caprice) will fit. the b-body looks to be relatively simple, the biggest drawbacks are the different lug spacing and wider width. either one can be adjusted for or modded.

i can't tell exactly, but those look like yor basic eldorado or 3rd gen camaro calipers in the pics. and the mounting plates are wrong for a g-body. they have the standard chevy 4-bolt pattern, the g-body's have a weird 3 bolt design. you can cut and fit http://www.thirdgen.org/ls1reardisc but for over a grand i want something that's truly bolt on. (and proper pics!) i'm hoping that it's just a standard pic, but those parts are a only couple of hundred max.
