454 for the Malibu? Absolutely!

The real question is, TH350 lockup, TH400, or 700R4? They are all stock, as is the motor. Think the 700R4 will hold up?

Stock for stock the TH400 has the best chance to survive behind the 454. The 350c and 700r will need work to handle the tq
IIRC the crossmember will need to be fabbed or aftermarket as the 'bu wont have the frame extension for a 200r crossmember which is a closer match. Not a huge deal but not bolt-in and go either

Maybe I will use the TH400 until i can get the 700R4 built. I know it's healthy but so far the consensus on using it is "as long as you dont hammer on it," which obviously i will be doing a lot of.

Love the wheels. I went back and read the whole thread. Did you keep the propane setup with the 454?
Now I've seen 3 Malibus with that paint scheme! My first car was an 80 4 door malibu with the same paint, which is why i jumped all over this one when i saw it.

And now you've seen a fourth. I always wondered if the paint was factory. My first Malibu wagon was gold with the light woodgrain.
