I can't get into the throat real well, guess it's time to order up one of those pencil-type attachments... also gotta get some ball-shaped or bullet-nose cylindrical stones so I can reach the roof of the port from the valve.

Re: My 383 TBI project (TB383I)

looks like ur gonna have a nice little project goin. that oil pan had alot of crap in it. porting looks like its comin along too.

Re: My 383 TBI project (TB383I)

Yeah... it had a cruddy, sludgy oil mess inside it... still does  I'm thinking I'll drop the block off at the machine shop tomorrow to get it cleaned. I may have to have one of the valve guides replaced too because it has some kind of marking that I'm pretty sure is from a burr on the vlave... not a huge deal but I was hoping to avoid little crap like that. If there is a shop with a flow bench in the area I may have some flow testing done to see what improvements are on the heads.

Not too long after the porting and block cleaning I should hopefully be into buying new parts 8)

Re: My 383 TBI project (TB383I)

I put that flex attachment to work tonight. I still need to find some stones that have longer shanks on them or something... I don't have a compressor, otherwise I could use one of those pencil grinders, then I could probably get the rest of the runner and the roof area near the ramp.

Re: My 383 TBI project (TB383I)

I think the chambers & intake part of the first head are pretty much done. I can't reach everything with the tools I currently have... I have some other stones on the way that may enable me to reach the inner wall of the port, guess I'll find out soon enough.

Re: My 383 TBI project (TB383I)

Got the new stones, gonna do what I can on the rest of the intake wall, and clean up the exhaust ports... then it's off to a flow bench to see what the difference is.

Re: My 383 TBI project (TB383I)

Did that truck originally have a V8 or a V6? I have a V8 computer if you need one.

Re: My 383 TBI project (TB383I)

It's a 4.3 truck (still has the original drivetrain). I'm going with a completely different computer setup though. It uses most of the original computer, but replaces part of it. I'll be able to datalog, do a ton of other things the factory computer isn't capable of, and reflash it from the laptop.

Re: My 383 TBI project (TB383I)

stick or auto?

I'm considering rebuilding an 88+ 350 for my C10 this winter. The lil 305 runs ok, cuts out when you mash the pedal tho, but runs and tows okay, but I've also noticed that it blows a lot of oil on startup. Why rebuild the heads when I can redo the whole works.
