My 83 Wagon

Ive checked the grounds, the socket, the fuse block, the bulb. All good.
Check the ground wire at the socket; I had a problem with one that was difficult to diagnose. The rubber boot holds the wire in, making it seem tight, but it's really loose at the connection in the socket.....

If that was bad wouldnt the bulb not light at all ? It just wont blink. The front or the side.

Does the dash indicator go fast or solid? Sometimes they can pull ground through the parking lights. It's really not fun to troubleshoot at all, as you're seeing firsthand!

Indicator light for the right side doesnt light at all. I switched it to another hole and it worked so I know its not the bulb and socket. The left side works fine. And youre right. This isnt fun. Its becoming a huge pain in the *ss. Very frustrating. Especially since it came on the other day for a few seconds and now its off again.

Well, I'd say start with a test light at the column connector; the front turns and dash indicators are tied together there.
What does the rear turn signal do? Usually, a faster flash will indicate that the flasher isn't seeing the load from the front filaments. Sometimes, they will just stay on solid. I'm sure one of the village elders can expound upon the correct symptoms....

Well, I was on a roll until I had to go to someones house tonight. lol
I finally used a test light at the bulkhead connector. I checked both sides and it looks like the problem is from the connector back to the column. Im almost positive its not the wire or the bulb socket. Im pulling the connector apart tomorrow to check the terminals. Male and female. I thought they were pretty clean when I put it all back together but I might have missed one. I also coated all of them with a little dielectric grease.
When I was redoing the engine compartment in the 81 I bought a selection of the Packard terminals so I could run new wires back to the bulkhead connector and get rid of a few spliced wires. If I need to replace a couple on the wagon it wont be a big deal. I even have the crimping tool that makes a factory crimp.

Jump to the column connector before you tear the bulkhead apart- it might be the turn signal switch in the column.....

You were right on. It was the connector on the column. I took it apart, snapped it back together and the blinker started to work. I probably should have started at the column but in the end I guess it worked out for the best since I cleaned up any weak and frayed wires that went to the lights. Im actually working on that today. Right sides finished. Working on the left side getting the split loom all back in place so it looks right.
I have to run a single wire to the bulkhead connector. Im glad I bought some Packard connectors and the right crimper. Makes it look like factory.

I guess I should go out to the garage and see how these look at night with the garage lights off. LOL

Finally got the TH350 cleaned up. I might throw a new pan gasket on it. I wanted to shoot it with some silver base coat and SEM matte clear that I had left over but the weather hasnt been great here for the last few days. I just used some rattle can aluminum engine paint instead. Its going to be under the car anyway so what the heck. At least it looks clean.
