I know Im going to catch some flak for this one. Jack, its a sickness !! I cant help myself ! LOL
After I sprayed the TH350 I really wasnt thrilled with the color. I started to paint it with what was left of a can of Duplicolor Cast Aluminum. I didnt have enough in the can to do the full job so I ran up to the local Advance Auto and got another can. As soon as I picked the can up I noticed it said Aluminum on the label. Not Cast Aluminum. It was the only can they had so I thought Duplicolor did another color change like they did with one of the blacks a couple of years ago. I bought it and I used it the same day.
As soon as I started spraying it I noticed it was a totally different color. Thats the color on the transmission in the photo I posted. Last night I was on the Advance website and saw they still list the Cast Aluminum. I figured it would be the same light silver that I had before. It really looked like bare aluminum. So I drove to the next Advance a few towns over and they had it in stock. Grabbed a can and put another coat on this morning.
Well, Duplicolor must have changed the color since I bought the can that I had. Instead of a light silver the new Cast Aluminum is very close to Cast Blast only a little lighter.
Now Im pissed. Way darker than I wanted. I had a can of Seymour Cast Aluminum so I tried to spray over it all. Of course the stupid paint reacted to the coats underneath. It just gets better every day. LOL
So now Im doing what most people probably will say is crazy. Im stripping the multiple coats of paint off the case to start fresh. I already started to see how its going to work. A little bit of paint remover and a cup wire wheel on my little air grinder. Im thinking its going to take some time but screw it. I have some Variprime and some DP left in my paint cabinet. I'll use one of them to prime it and see if I can find another silver that I like more than the Duplicolor.
Tomorrow Im going to seal off the fittings, seals and any holes in the case. Cover it with stripper and have at it. I hope its uneventful.
