Re: My 86 442: update 1-3-2012

Those are Spohn pieces. Definitely stiffened up the car quite a bit over my stock 25 year old control arms, sway bars, and bushings. I have Spohn upper and lower control arms up front with their sway bar also.

Nicee, I'm also going to make those conversions, need to stiffen my ride up too,
Whats a good place to get them? Price wise, 🙂

I ordered straight from Spohn. Their site is spohn.net. I've found that gbodyparts has big mark ups on the things they sell. You can also check summit but I dont know if they carry spohn, they have other brands like UMI, Hotchkis, etc...

One more thing, I'm starting to look into transmission options because I think the stock 200-4R is a little weak to handle the abuse I'll probably throw at it. I'm considering another beefier 200-4R or switching to a th-350 but am hesitant to drop to the 3 speed because of the 3.73's I have out back. I am considering swapping transmissions between my 72 C10 project that has a th-350 in it, and my 442 with the OD. I know I would need to adapt the bellhousing from the chevy trans to the Olds motor but that doesn't seem to hard with adapters being available. Plus the truck is going to be more of a cruiser and would be nice with an OD trans. But if I decide to get another 200-4R I was looking at a stage 1 trans from Extreme Automatics for $1495. IIRC I think Dogshit said he had experience with the EA 200-4R? Give me your thoughts if you can. I have a few questions about them. Like if there is a core, how they are to deal with, how the trans acted, etc... Thanks for any help and insight guys!

Keep overdrive dude. i regret getting a th350 built up, shoulda saved for a 2004r. i have 373's and i hate every second i take it on the highway, maybe i just dont like high rpms... idk. All tached out top speed is mid 70's Rpm is like 5000ish... would enjoy cruising to more shows and stuff farther away if i had OD

Where did you get the olds m/t valve covers?

Re: My 86 442: update 1-25-2012

I bout them from locally from a guy on craigslist and painted them. They are normally bare cast aluminum. I don't think you can buy them new anymore. I think these covers are damn near 40 years old... they list on the inside they fit Olds 330-425, 455 isn't listed on them yet. If you are looking for similar covers Minion might still have his Holley covers for sale that are very similar.

That's what I was afraid of... I definitely do not want that. I tend to daily drive my 442 in the summer, its not highway but still its speeds of 55-60 which isn't much better. I'm looking for a 200-4R that has real firm shifts that'll potentially give a good chirp under acceleration.
