Re: My 86 442: update 1-25-2012

I'll have to do some research on it. Thank you for all of your help and advice! You have helped on my build in more ways than I can count with your previous experiences.

Now for another question for you guys. I need to replace the dash speakers in the 442 due to their age and starting to sound crappy. Are the stockers 3 inch or 3.5? If they are 3's will a 3.5 inch fit or will I have to do some modifications?

3.5".

Re: My 86 442: update 1-25-2012

Your build is coming along at a great rate, I plan to copy your suspension lol, I have to vertical version of the wire loom you have. Hopefully my trans is decent enough with the cooler installed to hold up a bit before I move to a stage 1. I love the valve covers btw

Thanks for the comments! The Spohn suspension is really nice with the stock height springs, and bilsteins. Your trans will hold up as long as you don't beat on it too heavily. My 200-4R is just a stock rebuild with a shift kit and 2500 stall. Thanks for the comment on the covers they came out pretty nice just took my time and painted em up.

Re: My 86 442: update 3-24-2012

So I did some thinking and decided to go a little different direction with the 442. Since I no longer have a need to daily drive it and have it be my "cruiser" I'm going more along the lines of a drag setup. The 1972 C-10 I acquired last June is going to be my cruising vehicle. So with that being said the 200-4R is coming out and in with a TH350. I am thinking about running the OD trans in the truck since it will see trips from Buffalo to Lake George on the other side of the state. The OD with 3.08 rear end should be good on the highway or allow for a little better rear end gear in the truck.

I picked up a dual bolt pattern TH350 for $100 that is currently in getting rebuilt with red clutches, TCI intermediate drum, and reverse manual valvebody. I also have a 2300-2800 stall going in with it, and a Derale pan. Other goodies are an Iceman cross-member, B&M prostick, and maybe roll control.

I have also decided on a swap to an aluminum radiator. I posted this question up earlier but I guess it never hurts to ask again. What model radaiators is everyone using? I have been between griffin and champion. Im a little confused on which griffin i need (8-00010 or 8-00008?), or I think the champion cc-162 is the model I need? Any help is appreciated on that!

Anyways here's a couple pics :

Man I like that pan, I wish I could use it on my 700r4 in my Camaro

Hey 86-blk442 what made you go with the Spohn suspension set up over the UMI suspension set up?

Re: My 86 442: update 3-24-2012

I went with Spohn at the time because of pricing and I had heard good things about them. At the time I bought everything ib was only 19 and working on a much tighter budget. But anyways, the Spohn stuff is quality and fit like a glove. Just like factory stuff. It really changed how the car handled.
