Re: My 86 442: update 1-3-2012

The gold block looks great with the black n gold valve covers, black intake, alternator, fill cap & power steering. Cant see the headers did you paint them black and is the pan black? Ever consider upgrading to a pair of electric fans from a salvage yard mini van or something? Free up a few ponies. If both tuned ideally you should have gained 5 HP at WOT from the carb alone with the Holley but part throttle or transient response drive ability and mpg will all suffer a little. It just gets a little more temper mental and race car like. The q-jets can get difficult to keep the fuel bowl full also but I never had any trouble running a 110 mph in the quarter. I bet the heads made a very noticeable improvement.

Re: My 86 442: update 1-3-2012

The headers and oil pan are black also. I thought about swapping to electric fans in the future. the flex fan that's on it now was laying in the garage so it was a freebie aside from painting it up. The holley is definitey a bit more tempermental than the q jet but it also does run a bit better. The heads and advancing the cam made a huge difference. Throttle response is almost immediate now, and you can feel the ground vibrate under you when its running. It sounds completely different than before also. Even though the only things that changed were the heads, cam timing, and carb.

lookin good dude! like the gold better

You'll like the R&M looms, only thing is you have to switch wires. the ""factory" length just arent long enough. i just got a set that you can cut to length and crimp on the ends.

digimurda: Yes its an Olds engine. Its a 350 bored .030 with #5 heads that were done by Bill Trovato at BTR.

3xBrownCutty: Thats what I was thinking I would do with my wires, I could use a little better set anyway. Do you happen to have any pics of the R&M looms on the engine?

Here's a better pic of the motor when I had the car outside:

And here's a video of the car running on the Q-Jet before I switched to the Holley.

Re: My 86 442: update 1-3-2012

A red distributer cap with matching red wires would look sharp. Maybe with black boots. It would accent or offset the primary black & gold theme but not be over the top as to make it a rainbow. Like a pinstripe can sometimes do on a car. Also ever consider locating some salvage yard Pontiac underhood braces instead of the flimsy wire like braces Olds used? 8)

Re: My 86 442: update 1-3-2012

I have thought about it if I could get my hands on a pair I would all day long. as far as the wires and cap go I was thinking red, and wish I could get a corrected cap but they won't work on the olds motor as fast as I know. Kinda sucks.

Re: My 86 442: update 1-3-2012

Do a wanted post on in the for sale section. Somebody probably has an extra set they will part with otherwise the gbody vendors. If you don't like there price ask them if they will come down on it. I doubt its a fast moving item but it should be. You can also make them which may look home made but that can be cool or not depending on your ideas and fabricating skills. We have members here that have done it. Corrected cap? If you have a new quality cap that you would rather keep you can actually paint it with the right heat resistant paint. I prefer when they have the gold leads on the inside instead of the aluminum looking ones.

Re: My 86 442: update 1-3-2012

Get the Accel universal 8.8 red race wires. Very high quality wires, 25 ohm per foot. I had the MSD super conductor 8.5 wires, #1 wire cracked twice.

Re: My 86 442: update 1-3-2012

Thanks ill have to check into those wires. Just ordered a Trick Flow throttle cable bracket for the 4150 too, should be here tomorrow. I love living decently close to Summit!
