Another update, just got done re-seamsealing the trunk floor, and painting it up with the speckled trunk paint. Along with that i went ahead and painted the floors with rustoleum, I brushed it on instead of spraying it. Overall i think it looks pretty good, its nice to not have a rusty floor or trunk anymore 😀
The welder is a Hobart Handler 150 i believe (its my buddies) and yes we were using flux cored wire. It worked just fine for us he was able to make perfect welds (although he does weld all day long being a steamfitter haha). He welded his tube bumpers on his truck with the flux core too and it was fine welding 3 inch tube with a 1/4 inch wall.
Ok guys I havent updated this in a while but car is finally getting painted. Ive decided not to two tone it like factory and just keep it all black. However, i am going to ghost stripes on the header panel, hood, and trunk, along with ghosting "442" in the factory locations. I've decided on a dark charcoal for the stripes and "442's"
Im slowly but surely running out of parts to install on the car. So far all brake and fuel lines have been replaced with stainless steel ones from classic tube ( I love that they are like 20 mins from my house haha), new gas tank and sending unit, new exhaust, new bilstein shocks, all of the brakes, new carpet and headliner, new stainless steel t-top pieces, im sure theres more but heres some pics from the other night:

Does anyone know where I can get another one of these? For some reason the car only had one on it.
Well anyways car got painted today so I will post up more pics tomorrow probably.
Thank you, I'm trying to get it as nice as possible with the limited funds I have (I'm a 19 year old college student haha). But anyways I've been working working on it for almost 2 1/2 years now so I cant wait to see my final product too.
Once idiots rip out the AC & mess up the wireing they are hard to restore and drop in value and saleability for a driver/street car or restore able car especially in anything other than our northern states. Just fyi the vin 9 307 that only came with the 442 did have a different cam & other minor upgrades over a regular 307 and were rated at more HP & torque. I believe 180HP & more importantly I think 255 foot pounds of torque. The Olds 307 made its torque at the bottom of the rev range which is why they will so easily do a burn out. I have seen a 380ci stroker 350 and 403s used in 442s & Hurst Olds as the outside dimentions are identical to the 307 so you can get the performance without loseing much if any value. They can be built for about the same money as building a 307 but they can be built to run hard. As an example Edlebrock lists its rpm power package for a pump gas Olds 350 at about 400HP & over 400TQ.
When I redid my 442 I kept the vin9 and the KZ code 200-4R (in my garage) so that I it could be reinstalled if someone wanted to buy it and do a concors type restoration. I installed a better stronger engine and could now afford to play as I could not grenade the not so hot 307. The only reason I did not use the KZ code 200-4R is because I already had another street strip built 200-4R to go with the engine. You can check out mine in the photo album. I got my factory replacement stripe kit from stencils & Stripes. Not that the 442 is a big time collectable the NADA only lists the average retail at 4,320 but it also list the regular 2 door coupe at 2,275. My point is that everything that moves it a step away from easily returnable to original loses some of that difference and that difference will only get greater with time. With a Cadillac engine mine was in a way a big departure from original but other than that nothing was done that would devalue it and the original engine & trans were kept and could easily be reinstalled. Mind you I made improvments 36mm hollow sway bar, built 200-4R, widened stock wheels, in-tank electric fuel pump etc but not things that would deter from its value such as removing the AC or selling the factory wheels engine trans modifying the body chopping the interior losing its two tone & stripes etc. Anyway just things to keep in mind while you have opportunities to go one way or another with individual things in your build. One more thing at the end of the day its your car make sure you build it how you will enjoy it the most.
that is exactly what i am doing, When I bought the car some one had already hacked it up so I decided to have fun with it and make myself happy. I'm not too concerned about it being original or looking like it did back in 1986 its just had way too many parts taken from it to be totally restored. So Im just gonna build it to make it look good so that I am happy with it. At least I still have the 8.5 posi rear end haha. If this car had been in better shape and less hacked up I would totally be returning it to stock, Im not saying its impossible but just very costly. And even though it may not be going back to stock its still better than going to the crusher!
Been doing lots of work to try and get the car up and on the road. Ive blacked out the interior. all moldings and chrome are now flat black, and the car is black. Heres some pictures from the weekend:
