Re: My 86 442: update 5-5-10

Its a flat tappet cam engine. Government made the oil companys take the zinc or ZDDP package out of our oils that the flat tappet cam engines required as lubrication. Well worn engines with weak stock springs usually live for a good while with the newer oils but something fresh with good springs and a performance oriented cam will get its life cut short without it. You can either buy a ZDDP additive for any oil or use Valvoline VR1 racing oil. It was excluded because its always been marketed as a racing oil. You can get it in a 10/30 but you may need to ask someplaces to order it for you if you want it in 10/30. Most places carry it in 20/50 which is fine in the summer. Oil filters I prefer WIX.

well guys the car is home with just a few more odds and ends to do, like the front brakes, getting the fuel gauge to work (ideas anyone?), and having the lock-up solenoid and shift kit put in the transmission. Heres some pictures from my shop and today a few min ago:

Love the interior, its flippin awesome! Always did like those T-Top gauges.

Re: My 86 442: update 5-19-10

Thanks! I had to black it all out like the outside of the car, I just didnt like the maroon at all. So I figured that black with the brushed aluminum inlays would be pretty nice. Now I just need to figure out how to recover the front seats, I have the upholstery Im just kind of afraid to start pulling the seats apart. I did the back one already but that was easy haha.

Looks good. I like the black/brushed aluminum look. But I may be a lil biased.
