ok i bought a 1986 cutlass salon 442 i thought i was getting a good deal when i paid 450 and 100 bucks for gas but i lifted the carpet four days ago and holes i was so pissed and i showed my cuzn and he was like 2 think uve been driven it with a milk crate soo after weeks and weeks of looking for parts i finally got most of the things i need ill have pics up soon if i ever figure it out got my bucket seats and paid 53 dollars and there good all i need at the moment is my new floor pans and ill have a decent bit of work for a coupple months... also if any1 could point me in the right direction with my motor id really appreciate it.. its a 307

Summit sells the floorpans now. And a guy on ebay has a 1pc full floor pan!!
As far as motor, drop a 455 in it and go LOL. Itll bolt right in.

Even with the holes, 450 bux for a 442 is a fair deal. P.S. 100 bux for gas!!! man how much is it a gallon where u live?? 😱

i had 2 trailer the car from erie to pittsburgh soo 100 bucks and the 450 would b nice but im tryn 2 keep the lil 307 in it and maybe beef it up..

$450 is still a killer deal for a 442, since the rear-end alone is worth about $750+...

Floor pans are no big deal, they're readily available and aren't that hard to replace if you know how to weld or have a friend that does.

I put a set of headers and true-dual exhaust on my 307, and it woke it up a bit, but I wouldn't put anything more in it than that. I waited till I blew it up and replaced it with a 350, then a 455...

The 307 is a very good engine, just not a powerhouse. If you want more power, toss in an Olds 350, it'll bolt up and use the same carb, dist, and accessories. You can also go up to a 403 or a 455, they will also bolt right in, but will be a little taller. There are enough people on here that have done this swap, so I'm sure you will get those questions answered if you ask.

403 is not any taller. It has the same dimensions as his 307. BTW I just listed a spare 8.5 from a 442 with a reasonably fresh posi & brakes and sold it the next morning for $750. Check out the pics of my 442 for ideas.

You cant buy a decent bicycle for $450 dollars..... you were expecting a running, rust free car? I have more bad news, that $100 for gas will have to be done over and over again. Wait till you buy oil and filters! I'm pretty sure that kid in the NAPA commercials is back to riding his bike. You may want to consider setting up them bucket seats in front of your TV and Xbox. Your mom will keep you filled with cheetos for free.

Sorry bro, I couldnt resist. Cars are money pits in the best of times. If you hang around here long enough you'll read all about it.

You're right, 403 is the same dimensions as the 307 and 350 since it is a SBO. Sorry about that.

See if you can track down a December 2009 issue of Car Craft, it has a pretty good How-To article on floor pan replacement. Actually, the article might be online by now.
