After reading 85 cutlass broughams build-up thread, I could not wait to post my pictures showing work so far, since we are almost at the same place. I did not have a camera, so I have not taken pictures so far. These are actually first photo's and color is set wrong. I will add better tomorrow.

My car is an '83 Phantom prototype of the never built 20th anniversary '84 GTO. It is actually a 83' Grand Prix but I am adding little touches to make it GTO'esque. Such as custom hand made Ram Air Scoop (already on - being finished), a one peice grille simular to 68 GTO (to be added later), Oxblood PMD's (still to be installed), all options deleted ie landau, a/c, no-PL or PW, engine turned dash panel, red fire pearl paint, etc.

Power is a 355 with Bow tie Heads, LT4 Hot Cam, 10.5:1, with a demon carb, backed by an added 2004R, and 3.73 posi. with full dual exhaust with an x-pipe.

I have done ALL of the work my self in the garage in the background (tent). I am going to start adding pictures as I go. Hoping to paint this week-end (we'll see). I am dying to drive it and way behind schedule, so a few tid-bits will be added later to complete the GTO conversion (been building it for years - whitch is a b*tch in Cleveland with no garage).

i like it its different, i really like the seats and the engine bay looks real clean too. nice work

The WS6 wheels look good on that body style. What color is it going to be? I would also go with straight black for the interior rather than doing it multicolor. The Grey/black is a bit dated and looks too 80's. If I could find the pieces to do a black interior, I would go that route on my car since the Trans Am's and Corvette's painted my color (Navy Blue Metallic) came that way when new.

it is going to be fire red pearl. The interior is likely going to be dyed oxblood to match the seats or the seats and entire interior will be dyed to match the black rear seat, depending on how the oxblood looks with the fire red. The black and grey idea has been abandoned, I just forgot to update the old photo

very neat project you have going on here. Oh and i fixed some of your pictures for you.

I like it. The hood looks good. It fits the body lines, is unique, and does have a GTO flair to it. The wheels also look great and go with the performance Pontiac theme. I like the seats to. I am surprised you didn't go the extra mile and put a Pontiac engine in it but I am sure this was cheaper and no doubt will run good. The 200-4r and 3.73s is a sweet combo. I would recomend you get one of the switches that locks & unlocks your converter automatically and if you add the manual lock up feature with it you can manually lock it up in 2nd or 3rd when you want to pick up 1 to 1.5 tenths & 1 to 1.5mph at the dragstrip. At least that is what I picked up with my GN. (But it is hard on the transmission) More importantly the lock up is good for about a 300 rpm drop on the highway and 1 mpg. Going to be a very cool car.

Thanks for the feedback. I did not go with Pontiac power for more than one reason. First, I had the 350/355 and know them better, plus the car came with a Chevy 305 so the Pontiac motor would not have been period correct. Besides the 2004-2008 GTO's had chevy power, so its not totally unheard of. IF GM made a GTO in 84 it would most likely have had a 350.

I might switch to a Poncho 455 if I could find one cheap, but I doubt it. At one time before I started restoring the body this car was named "the box where I keep my engine".

The seats are stock pontiac PMD's. They were offered in 82-83 in Firebirds, a few Grand Prix's, and according to the 83 brochure I have J2000's (but I have never seen one). These seats are from a Firebird(drove 4 hrs to get them), but the car orignally had a set in grey cloth . The seats are desired by KITT guys. I sold my whooped set to a guy in spain for a KITT for over $200.00.

If anyone has a rear that would go with these, I want it. I currently have a vinyl rear that I am going to dye. I will buy or trade (I will post in the appropriate location later).
