I was always into mopars and muscle cars at the time i never cared to much about g bodied cars or anything from the 80s,i was caught by surprise when my first car was going to be a 1986 olds cutlass supreme,my dad had purchased it from an old lady who drove it as a daily driver, then she got a newer car and left the cutlass sit, then after a while put it up for sale, first $2000 then $1200 then $1000 then finally since no one would by it,she had her son (who was friends with my dad) offer my dad the car for $200 (200 because they went to the junkyard and that was the price to crush the car) and so he bought it.Now, the cutlass wasnt in horrible shape, but the burgundy metallic paint was faded it was missing a grille on the drivers side ,had 3 pairs of different rims,a broken taillight and a glasspack muffler where the stock one had sat.I had to walk down one day to help work on it,the first time i saw it i fell in love with it,it was idling in a grassy lot on a coldish november day, just purring at me,i fell in love with it.We drove it back to our garage ( what a drive! it was so sluggish)and there it sat for four months until i had fixed the engine. The 307 y code v8 was very greasy, the engine was miss firing, smoking terribly and felt like it had only 20 horsepower when driving it to the garage. After cleaning the engine off and lots of oil changes it ran like a top and sounded like hell with a glasspack muffler,It had low gears i remember but im not sure what ratio, the beloved car was sold july 2008 and unbearibly miss it,i would love to track it down one day,it was sold to a couple who lived in detroit, lesson number one, never sell your first car.
